That's a real shame. That is one of the best little "backyard"strips in all of California. I grew up in the SFV,watched San Fernando get plowed under in the '70's. Then Lions,San Gabriel,Fontana,Irwindale,Orange County, the list goes on.. I wonder when Pomona is gonna fall? We used to go to 3 diffrent drag strips in ONE weekend! No wonder people are bailing out of Cali!! [IMG] [IMG]Sparky

There have been updates on a Cal Look VW forum for quite some time as they go to the town meetings and have been try ing to stop this progress.

    One message is hopeful..then not

It is a shame a place with so much history is going away. I know another track in Long Island dissappeared this year or last also.

  7. It's one of the last family oriented motorsports venues in that area...!

That means when it's gone..., you'll either have to travel a good distance to Moto-X or Dragrace or you'll have to "buy your own land" for these activities...!!!

I used to think the road going to the dragstrip was the Moto-cross track [IMG]...! That thing was rough...!

My brother in law had been racing there for years in differnt cars - mostly his green 73 Buick Opollo. He was gonna make one last run the weekend before they moved back to MI 2 months ago but called first. That was when he got the news they had closed.

I think that'd be like going for the last cookie in the jar - only to learn the one you just swallowed was the last one.

well this is what it looked like as of about an hour ago. i was driving past so i figured what the hell and jumped the construction fence to see how far along they have gotten.
i can't say i'm suprised that it's gone as they have been going back and forth with the city for years over it. the track and access road have been in terrible shape for years. last time i went there was about 2-3 months ago for the antique drags, i put a post up here and talked to everyone i know about going, but know one wanted to because the road in is so bad. there was probably only 100 people total, racers and spectators included that day. 3 weeks later they closed it down for good.
    anyways here's some pics
