I have been working on friend and club mate Doc's '63 straight axle Nova lately. Fist and foremost was to get rid of the ugly cowl hood that was on the car when he first put it together. He got a steel hood at the Turkey Run for $10, I gutted it and cut the hole for the Hilborn to stick out. A few other updates were made and we are ready to hit the track again. Mostly getting ready for the Billetproof drags in October. It runs like a bastard with the new engine and the Hilborn. Here is the before with the cowl hood Mock up of the new steel hood Finished product The new engine
We only have 3 passes on the new engine. So far the best is 11.24, but it has alot left in it. We have done some tuning since then, it was running real fat and we put somemore timing in it. It should dip into the 10's.
Why do you guys keep teasing me with all of these Chevy II posts. I've got projects to last for at least 10 years and I know of a perfect '63 2drht that can be bought for a song. Stop posting this stuff or I'll tell my wife who is to blame if the '63 ends up in our driveway. Frank
Holy-Cow-Guys ! The car looks and runs awesome..... can't wait to see it run in person. I have a feeling that there are going to be several purpose-built cars at the Billetproof Drags in 90 days ....should a Killer-Shootout !
Great job, looks cool. I did a racecar hood kind of like that with carb stacks just bearly sticken out, ended up having to put stacks up plus extra 3in. higher because the air flow at about 60+mph over the hood shape I was using pulled air out of stacks right then making a flat spot in the power Air flow can fool ya.
I'm usually on the other side of the fence on this, but why isn't it a gasser? Maybe the wheelbase is stretched a little? Really can't tell for sure in the pictures. Larry T
No it's not stretched. Stock wheelbase. I'm not sure why it's not a gasser either. Seems like everybody is calling a car with a straight axle a gasser. This car looks the part and will perform like one. Thanks guys for all the kind words. We are looking forward to the drags. Now we have another gasser in the works that should be done in time.
Looking good. Loosing the cowl induction hood for the injectors peeking thru is a MAJOR improvement. I can't believe I'm the first to see the JUGS sticker on the fender. Funny stuff.
