I want to pass along the sad news that I received this morning that our friend Ken Burt passed away from a massive heart attack Saturday July 30, 2011. Ken was kenb here on the hamb, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=63952

Ken was an expert metal shaper and a willing tutor to anyone who wanted to learn how to shape metal. He hosted several gatherings for Allmetalshaping.com members as well as anyone else who wanted to show up. It was through Ken that I learned how to use an english wheel, how to tuck shrink and do basic metal shaping. Ken knew his stuff when it came to metals and wanted to pass along the lost art to anyone who was interested in learning. For those who do not know him some of his projects can be viewed here: http://home.cogeco.ca/~kenb2/index.html

I had received an email from him on saturday morning inviting several of the guys who had been at the last meet over to his shop to hang out & shape metal on sunday afternoon. I received another email from one of the other guys on the list informing me of Ken's passing. I was shocked at the news and I wanted to let any of his friends here on the HAMB know about it if they had not heard. While I did not know Ken extremely well, the times that I talked to him and the time I spent at his shop, he treated me like a life long friend.

My condolences to Ken's friends and family, he will be greatly missed.

I will pass along further information on funeral arrangements when I hear more. Here is a link to the allmetalshaping thread: http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=4066

    Godspeed Ken.

My condolences to his family and friends. I recall him recently replying several times to a thread trying to help out a fellow HAMBer that had some metal shaping obstacles. Seemed like a good guy.

Yeah, Ken taught me more in two days at one of the metal meets than I could have learned in two years by myself.

My condolences to Ken's family too. I've been watching his progress on a number of forums (right back to the original Metalshapers possibly) when he started working on the PT boat. Thankfully he finally got it completed to an operating model.
