Hot Rods S-10 rear differential interchange

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by re-animator, Mar 18, 2018.

  1. Hello everybody! I have a rear end out of a '91 S-10 pickup under my '53, I would like to change the gears to 3.08s from 3.42s. I'm having trouble finding a carrier for it. Does anybody know what interchanges with it?
    Thanks.

  2. ..just find a complete rearend with the gears you want and swap it in, much easier.

  3. all the later v6 s 10 were 3:42s .

  4. I'm just looking for a 2 series carrier. The 7.65 inch rears came in more than just the S10. The housing has been modified quite a bit, so a gear swap makes more sense, and running taller tires will only help a little. If a Camaro of Monte Carlo diff would fit, that would help.

    Possible applications:
    Chevy Astro / Safari Van 1982 - 2005 Rear
    Chevy Camaro 1982 - 2002 Rear
    Chevy S10 Blazer 1983 - 2005 Rear
    GMC S15 Jimmy 1983 - 2005 Rear
    GMC Envoy 2002 - 2005 Rear
Some 7.5's I believe will interchange with the 7.625 from one housing to another, BUT the 7.5 carrier will have 26 spline, and 7.625 will have 28 spline. You are correct about needing a series 2 carrier, that would hold the 3:08 and 2:73 gears.
