Rusted wide-five's - good for anything?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustynewyorker, Sep 29, 2006.

  1. I've passed up a number of Ford wide-five pattern rims because the tire bead surface is rusted out in spots. Are these wheels good for anything but scrap - would anyone re-use the center? They've all had tires on so I haven't been able to see if the center is even a seperate part.

I brought a couple of rusted early Model A wire wheels at swap meeting recently and they are being fitted into a new set of gates for the house.

So yes, I guess everything can be used.

  4. JOECOOL did a tech piece on installing wide-5 centers into late Chev and GMC pickup 16" X 6 1/2" shells. I've started on my own.

  5. My garden hose is resting on a 17" Ford wire wheel on a 4x4 cedar post. The rusted bead cut off the bottom. The center holds all the sprayers and stuff.

I've heard of people cutting those in half for "traditional" jack stands.
