In the past years of attending/vending/filming the Rust Revival I have always had to leave early (by about noon or 1 pm). This was due to annual family functions that started around 4pm up in Davenport Iowa. Well it seems I always left JUST a touch too early.....but perhaps that was a good thing. The reason I say this is because I now realize how much fun I have been missing out on by leaving early. This wont be happening again if I can help it.

Special thanks to Oliver Group for watching my table while I wandered off and tried to get some video footage of the event. Also thanks for the pizza from the Vagabonds - and for the hotel room Cliffy - I sleep a bit better in a real bed instead of the truck!

When I pulled in Friday there was a decent amount of people arriving. But it was Saturday that was really great. There were people there from Indiana (good to meet the Godspeed crew and Lindross) as well as Oklahoma. This year saw the Rumblejetts giving their high energy sets to even more people and there were many people that were excited to check them out - watching both sets on Friday and Saturday.

Although the weather up til late Friday was pretty wet (ask Breeder for exact rain totals in the 13 days prior to the show) the weather on Saturday was amazing. This brought out the cars from all over. And most of these cars were not afraid to park in the muddy gravel lot - and let's face it if you WERE afraid of getting your car parked near a puddle - perhaps you were at the wrong car show - OR ya should just show up earlier to get a spot on the concrete. But this is such a laid back crowd I only heard one person grumble about the lack of concrete. I told them they should just enjoy the show and have fun cause that is what everyone else it doing. I guess I should have been really upset when I got stuck in the mud with my truck when setting up. But instead of dwelling on getting stuck....I got my tow chain out and asked a person with a 4 x 4 to help me get out of the muck. It took 3 minutes and no drama. Perhaps that is what makes the Rust Revival so great - the overall lack of drama. People are there just to have a great time. The trophy hunters are not out in force and the car clubs that support the show know that by working together this will continue to be one of THE destinations for real hot rods in the midwest.

Todd and his wife put on an amazing show and I say - whatever they are doing - KEEP doing it and we will all keep on coming back. Oh - and if you want the BEST steak sandwich ever.............go to Reeds - THAT is worth the drive alone!

Had a great time, the show is out growing Wayland they are just running out of places to park them. But that's a good thing because that means more killer cars.
