I know there must be a simple way.... I have a sweet NOS Stewart Warner fuel gauge that I would like to run but it's 6V and I am running a 12V system. Any info on a simple 12V to 6V step down for the gauge would be great.

    Thanks,

    Jim

  2. Ford did that very thing for many years after the switch to 12V in '56. All through the '60s and probably into the '70s, Ford used 6V gauges with an in-line voltage reducer in the power feed to the gauges.

Check the Tech archives. There is a great artcle on building voltage regulators to let you do this.

  4. think runtz.....most old car parts suppliers have them , about $10

like stated already, you have to get an in-line voltage reducer(resistor) i've seen them through speedway and such.

Won't you need a 6V sender with your reduced voltage?

  7. The sender would be matched to the 6v gauge already.
