I hope posting this is ok with Pat. Subscribe to it.....It's free, and as close to ROD & CUSTOM MAGAZINE as you are going to get! THANKS, Pat https://patganahl.com/2019/07/22/dry-lakes-hot-rods/
I got started with Rod and Custom when Pat brought it back from the dead. I've never seen any of the little mags or the full sized ones before it's first demise. I just happened to pick up that first new issue that boldly declared, "We're Back!!!", just to see what it was all about, and was hooked. A lot of the historical references went over my head as I wasn't familiar with them, like Pat's series on the "Floyd Lippencote" dragster, I didn't have a clue who he was talking about but loved the way he presented the story, I was hooked! I stayed with R&C for a while after Pat left, but it just wasn't the same. For a long time, I subscribed to R&C and Street Rodder both, then finally dropped both. Once again, I can get that great writing and knowledge that Pat is known for from his blog. It's like R&C all over again without all the ads and bs. Just like the mag, you may have to wait a bit for his next post, but it's well worth it!
Yep, he's one to the best. Always enjoy his stories and how-tos, have all of his recent work tucked away in a safe place.
Thank you sir for the very helpful info. There are only a handful of magazines I subscribe to that I have every issue of and am glad I can continue that with Speed and Kulture.
I realize this thread is long gone, but thought I'd add a little stuff. This is a t-shirt that Gary Emory had made back in about 1979.....
When RC quit the second time I had all of them from the first time they started over plus many, many of the older ones. Boxed them up and LABELED the boxes so when I get old I can re-read them, be like new magazines. Probably start next year. All the Street Rodders got tied in one year bunches and given away at Sat or Sun coffee meets.
I miss R&C, we wanted really bad to get the 56 back in the magazine again after it was on the cover back in 1960
Recently re-subscribed to Hot Rod after being guilted into it by the following thread. You know, it’s not what it was long ago, but the issue I received so far had some pretty interesting articles and it’s dang near free at about $20 for 2-3 years. One way to help a mag go away is to stop subscribing (the point of the thread below). John
My magazine habit started with the Sept '51 issue of Hop Up. R&C was a spinoff from Hop Up, and I bought and read every issue from then on. R&C remained my favorite forever. I still regard Murray, Bryan, Jake, Wineland, East, and Ganahl with honor for their contributions to that great publication. Sorry if I missed anybody.
local oxy supply store would ship your unwanted mags to us servicemen overseas, couple buddies and i delivered over 1000, they asked me to stop ... usps shipping $. my nephew said that with the women being FULLY clothed over there the US mag adds were kind of soft porn to the troops... he said they all liked the piece of home on the road... he said they liked the muscle cars most [wipper snappers].
