I hope so. If all goes well I'm going to trailer the truck to Bonneville for 2015 speed week, I'm looking forward to driving it on the salt.
That would be awesome! I went to Speedweek for the 50th anniv. My wife was glued to the starting area! If I had some vacation time, I would go just to see your truck! Your build keeps giving me inspiration. I hope to have a rolling chassis before fall!! Keep up the good work!
So I have been very busy working on my truck and making good progress the past month I finally welded a skin on the drivers side door, any one who has installed a door skin on a 32-34 truck knows that it's a real pain to hammer out and metal finish. I have seen a few guys cut an access on the inside of the door so they can hammer the weld flat so I tried it and I have to say I really like how it turned out.
so now all I need to do is weld the inside back on and pull some dents on the upper portion of the door.
From the very start of the build I wanted a roll pan on the rear of the truck this is what I came up with. here it is welded and metal finished Here it is back on the truck, I'll be building a nerf bar to mount the tail lights to, for right now there just in rough mock up.
painted my deluxe steering wheel kodiak brown and pearl white. The color really pops in the sun light!
Ok sorry to get a little off topic and away from the actual building of this truck but I wanted to share what I've been working so hard for the past few months. So after I drove my hot rod for the first time I quickly made the decision to take my truck to 2015 speed week at the Bonneville salt flats. I started working a lot of late nights to get my truck as far along as possible, (I might ad that I was going to trailer there) then I got the news that speed week was canceled again due to rain and poor salt conditions.
After I got the news I felt like I still needed to do something in my truck this summer. I then decided on the HAMB drags this will be my third year going and first time racing, in fact I've never even been down a drag strip before I hope I don't make a fool of my self. so if your at the drags and see my truck in the pits stop by and say hello!
So this is my truck as of now after the drags I'll post some pictures of me racing then it's back to building. I need to finish the wiring, headlights, taillights, ect. Weld on the rain gutters and do a little more work to the bed and passenger side door and I'll be ready to start the next stage of the build.. Paint! Hope you enjoy and stay tuned.
rob bob, your truck looks super!! Great stance and attention to detail. Is the painted steering wheel a preview of colors to follow?
Ok as promised here's my next update from the HAMB drags, the first part of the trip I trailered my truck to Owasso Oklahoma to visit with family I also wanted to drive my truck over to Walt's Used Cars where I bought the rusted cab 3 years earlier. It was really cool for him to see how much my truck has changed since he last saw it! I wish I would have snapped a picture but I completely forgot about it.
So as most of you know the morning of the races was a mess I woke up to thunder and lighting, I looked out the hotel window to see my bare metal truck in the parking lot during a downpour. So at this point I figured there was no way we were going to race, I then got word that the rain at the track wasn't as bad as it was in Joplin and that they were going to try to race later in the day, so we made our way over to the track.
Once I got to the track the rain had stopped and the crew started drying the track and staging lanes. Here's my truck going through tech inspection. For the most part everything was good to go, I went back the pits and got my buddy to tape the up the letters on my truck. Shortly after that they were ready to start the races and I was about to make my first ever pass down a track so I was a little nervous.
I'm happy to say my first pass was a success kinda. I made it down the track but it was spitting and sputtering an craping out at full throttle, I've been fighting the carbs for weeks now trying to get them to run right but not having much luck, so I had to run off just the center carb for the races. My first pass I ran in the 18 something? But my reaction time was .0055 It must have been beginners luck.
