Event Coverage Road trip on Rout 66

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike Miller, Sep 7, 2015.

  1. Leaving tomorrow, 8 Sept 2015 on a road trip with the 57 Cadillac so I thought I'd start a thread for who ever wants to follow along. Heading east on US 30 mostly to Chicago and going to follow as much of 66 to Santa Monica. Be gone for as long as it takes. Packing the car tonight and leaving tomorrow. Just finished the work on the Cadillac which was almost a 20 year project so I figure this will be a good shake down cruse for it. I'll try to post progress on this thread every evening.

What I'm not getting is that you are heading East toward Chicago yet, your profile says you live in Oregon. Whatsup o_O
Maybe I meet you in SoCal prior to Santa Monica.

Looking forward to the trip coverage.

  11. Chicago is the traditional start point, the trip will be a loop, east om US 30 and west on 66. There are a lot of things along the Lincoln high way (US 30) I want to see.

When you get close to Staunton Illinois stop in at Henry's Rabbit ranch. Rich is a great guy. Give me a call 618-406-5914 if you need help or got a question for anything. Not far from the Rabbit ranch is
The Pink Elephant. Its a huge antique shop, the ice cream shop is very good.
    Good Luck on the trip

  21. Sounds awesome. There's a new must-see in Amarillo, Tx ...... Jim's Backyard Classics. On S. Washington, guessing about 5 miles south of I40. Some traditional hot rods, but mostly 50's and 60's GM products other than Chevy. They mostly are what they like to call "updated mechanics" consistant with original manufacturer. A hundred cars or so, not a dime spared on any one of them.
The National Route 66 museum in Elk City, Oklahoma is a must see as well. The town before that, Clinton, has a pretty good 66 museum also, but if you have to decide which to stop at, I'd do Elk City.
I'll watch for ya, lol. I live 1 1/2 blocks off old 66 in Amarillo.

Good time to travel the Route. Gas between St Louis and Tulsa averages about $2.19 right now.
