Technical removing weather stripping and adhesive

    All of the weather stripping has melted from heat over the years to the point that the door sticks closed. Have been peeling it away with a plastic spreader. What can I use to remove the residue and glue for clean-up. Paint is good (1940's paint)... Thanks !!

    I use 3M adhesive remover. Got it at the body shop supply store. Can’t remember the part number

    A quick google revealed several products by several manufactures, both in a spray can and liquid in a can. I recommend the liquid, you can put it on a strip of cloth, lay it over the area you need to clean and let it soak.

    Mineral Spirits may work and not damage paint.

    There is a new VOC complaint version it's in a white can, it seems hotter than the old red can stuff, or my red can degraded. Anyhow around here you can only get the new stuff, still works better than anything else that I have tried. I suspect since the OP stated the weatherstrip 'melted' he is dealing with some old old stuff, I can't remember what successful tactics I've used on the before, it sticky and brittle
