  1. The boss man had a 400 in an OT '72 Caprice and it needed an intake gasket set. So we began to pull it off and you could only see half of the valve springs and the lifters were completely covered!!! Swore by that QUAKER STATE!

Saw it at the Ford dealership that I worked at. A customer bought a new Pinto, drained the oil and put Amsoil in it. It was brought in for the piston rod recall with just over 11,000 miles. The first thing to do was drain the oil and about a quart came out. Removed the oil pan and it looked like it was full of melted plastic. The inside of the motor was the same way. We ended up pulling it and having the parts cleaned in a hot tank. The owner had to pay for it and he was trying to get Amsoil to pay for it. He was told that even if he was using an oil that claimed it can be run longer, he still had to change oil at Ford's recommended intervals to get warranty coverage.

I've also seen it with Pennzoil.

That yellow cardboard can, a drop or two spilled on the exhaust manifold - Pennzoil had a distinctive smell that brings back the early 70s, haven't used it since then. Maybe it's better now. I was told back then to use Castrol or Valvoline, all the old guys said the sludge buildup with Pennzoil caused problems.
