While going to school, in the summer I work at the local Chevy garage in York, Maine. Once a week I would travel to Portland to pick up a car from the Chevy garage up there. One week I pick up a big block 69 Corvette (what were the owners thinking-I was a high school kid) and had it peg (over 100, man was that thing flying) on the highway going back to York. I was pass by a 1956 Chevy station wagon with the lettering on the tailgate, 427 CU.

When I was in Tech School in Rice Lake the early 80's there was a guy that went to the local University of Wisconsin Barron County extension campus that had a green '55 2 door post. He called it "Tuff Toy". If memory serves he also had vanity plates on it that said the same thing. That car was very cool.

Bike Week in Sturgis - 2005. I snapped this pic of a classic Merc. Hard to read in my fuzzy picture but the name on the rear quarter is "The Wanderer".

One of the guys in my high school drove a '54 Ford 2-door with a 6 cylinder Fordomatic. He painted "The Shiftless Bastard" on the front quarter.

When we were kids a guy over a few blocks had 49
ford coupe named "half fast". When we were old enough to have cars my buddy named his "chicken shift". Good old days.

Back in the late 60's I had a completely stock VW beetle. On weekends, I'd letter up both doors (I was an art student) Sunny Acres Nudist Camp. Then, a couple of buddies and I would strip down to the waist and go cruise the strip and drive-inn restaurants. An AWFUL lot of fun!

IMG_0049.JPG Built my 27 roadster with my retired dirt late model racer as a donor car. Used the back half suspension and most of the running gear. Hence the name!

Hard to see in this photo, but my buddy's Nomad had the name "High Plains Drifter" painted in the rear window. He sold the Nomad in 1987 and after 31 years I found it and it's virtually a time capsule, except the "High Plains Drifter" is no longer in the rear window.

Fun thread, When I was in my early teens on Bainbridge Island Wa a lot of the "older guys" seemed to have names on their cars. Story was that one kept the local sign painter in beer money because he would put his current girl friend's name on the car as part of the car's name and he ended up changing girl friends on a regular basis.

I remember a few that ran around Logan, Ohio back in the day. There was The Tire Burner, Cathy's Clown, Studly Do Wrong, Ace High, Ole Blue, Large Barge, and a bunch more that I can't remember right now. It was a big thing for a couple years. If I ever get my 54 Olds on the road it's going to have" Lets Stay Out Late in my 88" on the trunk lid:D
