As of July 1st the SA Govt. is allowing pre 49 Hot Rods on their 90 day logbook rego scheme. This costs aprox $150 annualy as opposed to aprox $600 per year, and reduces your insurance costs about 40%. You just have to be a financial member of a recognised club and get a log book from their appointed inspector. How does this stack up against American rego requirements? Don,t want to start a rant just curious! Cheers
But to get real cult status of acceptance it has an "y" on the end of it. eg: Grab a "Tinny" from the "Esky" over by the "Barby"
Yeah Dicko grab a tinny from the esky for Shano and Daveo ,light the barby Micko and slap on a snag . Fuck do we really talk like that ??
To keep track of the days you have used it. You fill in the logbook before you leave. If the cops pull you up, they will check the logbook, and if you haven't filled it in you get a fine, because technically if you haven't filled in the logbook you are not registered.. I big difference between AUS and the US is AUS registration contains third party insurance (so all medical costs from a car accident are covered automatically at no fault)
Here in Texas we can reg, ours with antique tag 30 yrs or older good for three yrs suppose to drive to a show or parades not every day but the local fuzz dont hassell us, cost around 30 U,S, bucks I have a freind that lives in Sydney man stick it ya,ll every chance they get...
Might need a few extra snags. Stevo is on his way with a few bikie mates and some truckies that Wayno invited said they might drop in for a coupla stubbies.
Very different in the US. All states have their own registration programs. In Indiana, the registration can only be done for the full 12 months (typical). The cost is prorated based on the value and age of the car. It only costs $25 to register most cars older than 12 years or so. I pay $25 a year for the registration and another $50 per year for my personalized plate "HOT ROD". Antique plates and other plate schemes are available. None really affect the insurance.
What a pain in the arso to have to have a logbook to take your rod out and play with it... Here in ColoRODo (notice the 'o' on the end of it...!!!), we can purchase Antique plates, Horseless Carriage plates, Collector plates and/or Street Rod plates for a little money per year, or the Collector plates can be had via a five year purchase...and the 'rego' is included in any of it... This log book scheme(also in Victoria) seems like a pain in the arse. In Queensland hot rod rego is very flexible. You have concessional or full rego(LH9 or LH10). Full rego is full use but you pay full registration fees. Concessional rego(there is that "o" again) lets you go to sanctioned runs and also drive within a 15 km range for pretty much any reason.Of course you might have to drive to your mates place which is 80kms to check the oil and water and use his tools which is also permitted.Concessional costs about $200 a year. I just hope our TAC never goes the way Vic/SA have done.
A pain in the arse? Takes 2 seconds To fill out a logbook that saves 500 bucks a year, no pain from where I sit
Im with Thommo...its gets real pricey FAST if you have a buncha rides. IMO its just a fleece. Redlinetoys - what you guys do in Indy will NEVER happen here. Here, you will pay 675 clam$ PER vehicle that is on FULL registration, regardless of how much you drive the vehicle. Its a rip off as you can only drive one vehicle at a time. $25 to fully register a hot rod/classic/historic vehicle here in Oz? I'd LIKE to see THAT !! Rat
Here in New Jersey regular registration depends on weight class.. Think the normality cars are $50-60 a year for registration. My Lincoln, because it weighs more than a fucking Peterbilt, is about $80. Insurance runs me extra, registration just goes to... Well, the state gives me a cute little card. Historic registration is $44 I think for 3 years, but then you can't drive the car all the time.
Your log book is similar to what over-the-road truckers in the US have to maintain. Even for a 60% reduction in insurance rates, I'd would not be willing to submit to something along those lines. Far too much "big-brotherism" there for my tastes.
Agreed...what with the OBD's on new cars nowadays and GPS in phones to tell where you are at all times smacks of big brother...thank you no...and if the politicians of this country would/could...they'd have you chained to porch posts instead of allowing free reign... R-
Not trying to start a pissing match but I can drive my hot rod anywhere I like, anytime I like for 90 days a year, which is plenty form me (2 days most weekends for the whole year). I never have to justify whether I'm going to an event, a mates place to fix it or anything. I can drive it to work, pick up the kids from school without having to worry about having a story ready if plod asks. Just over $100 a year and 2 minutes at the start of a trip to date and sign a log book. I think that's a pretty good deal. Pete
well said pete, let's not get to carried away with the big brother stuff, what the beaucrats have done is actually helped us for once, provided a cheap alternative to normal registration, we fill out the date, print name and sign, not really to hard!!!. it allows those who have multiple cars the chance to drive them without costing a fortune.
