I sanded down flat the clear coat, and recleared it. Here it is in the small bathroom with a heater, to speed up the cure process. IMG_1530.jpg

I have a scrap of the perforated brass sheet, but it's too irregular to use, must find a substitute. IMG_1559.jpg

Hey Doc, thanks for checking in. Whenever I dive into something I've never done before the process is usually the same. I find out what not to do first. I started out with Alclad chrome to find out it wasn't satisfactory. I had an airbrush setup that I had never used before, so I started out on my discovery path.

What I learned was that the surface of the object has to have the same prep/build up as any quality custom paint job, 400/600 wet sanded surface. The air brush won't supply the volume needed to get the quantity/volume of product onto the surface, to look right.

I used my regular Sata paint gun turned way down to apply the chrome stuff. You'll see the results shortly. Oh, and thanks again for the help.

Having trouble uploading some of these pics. The chrome looks excellent right after application. It will dull a little after flash off. thumbnail.jpg

I'm learning that like non catalyzed coatings, this chrome will do bad things when you try to apply it too thick. I had to strip those lower mldgs.
    Here's another look at progress.

From time to time, I like to go back and look at the various phases of this build and remember those times. They represent a monumental struggle as you all know, all the effort to deal with the demands of a recreation compared to a tribute/clone type vehicle. WHAT A MONSTER!

I was drawn to the one comment that dealt with the color after the car arrived home from Dan's shop, AND TO THAT I HAVE TO REPLY. It would have been so easy to spot in that r. side that had the match problem, but fate (God) stepped in and said, "wait just a minute here." The B.S. part of this project was over, and the time had come (where have we heard that before?) to protect the original theme of this adventure, and its out-of-control builder.

I was totally distracted and amazed that lacquer was still available. I could really jump into the deep end and get drunk on Barris Kustom 'royale', brush aside the "yeah, but what about..." , and completely lose my mind. Very dangerous territory for your wallet, and mental health, but I'm getting the impression it's fun to watch. Weve been through a couple of these already, haven't we?

    To be continued...

With a drum of cheap thinner approaching $800.00 a barrel and good filler at #125.00 not counting the cost of color, primer, hardener you can tie up North of $2000.00 in material for a paint job.
