Technical Rebuilding rockers

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 46international, Nov 22, 2021.

  1. Anybody that knows Y block motors knows how the rockers wear so I have a few and thought I could rebuild them. I have reamed out the rocker shaft hole and started looking for bushings to press in. Anyone have any thoughts as to what type material these bushings should be? I have some rockers that have been rebuilt and they look to have bronze or brass bushings installed, should I go with cast bronze, oilite bronze, brass or some other material? how about just using steel? The stock arms are just forged steel I guess. Thoughts?

Oilite would be excellent, but I'm told it is a bit difficult for the DIYer to machine in the sense that it will tend to "smear" without very sharp tooling and lose its characteristics. Bronze bushings should be fine? What do the pros use, like RockerArm specialties?

  4. Just checked, should have done that first. They use bronze.
    Thanks

Correct. I sent my rockers to them for refurbishing and new centerless ground rocker shafts. They hone the bronze bushing to a perfect fit with the shafts. I also had them change the ratio on my exhaust rockers so as to help with the single pattern camshaft I have.
