Hi, I know this isnt the place to come for this kind of help but Im no high tech guy and don't know where to go. My son "borrowed" my computer the other day and now I have no icons or toolbar on my desktop all that comes up is a wallpaper that I took down weeks ago now its back and nothing else. The only way I was able to get this far was to go through the task manager and work my way through all the programs until I could get connected. If you can help please do. Sorry for such an OT post but I'm desperate -Paul-
bttt I've never heard of that one. If you are running XP and can't figure out how to get rid of the problem, do a system recovery. It pretty well just wipes everything out and puts your Computer back to where it was the first time you turned it on. I had some kind of Virus one time that was keeping me from doing anything at all.I did the Recovery thing and got rid of it. Kind of a pain in the ass to go find all your Favorites and stuff like that again, but cheaper than going out and buying another computer.
It would be helpful to know what operating system you are running. Here's a wild stab though... If you are running XP you might try right clicking on the start button then select properties from the popup menu with a left click. You should now get a box with Task Bar and Start Menu tabs. Select Start Menu if its not already selected. Next click the circle next to Classic Start menu. Now your desktop icons should be visible. You might also try left clicking on your desktop, selecting properties, then the desktop tab and select a new desktop. Click the Customize button then deselect the desktop cleanup box. That way things you don't use often won't disappear in the future.
