Thanks Brer (Jim?)! I remember that in '68 a friend bought a very nice '64 fastback for $1800. It was a used car. A depreciated used car. At that time, Corvettes were not venerated as icons or collectible in any way. In '68, you could have probably gotten a '63 split for $1600 because it was a year older! In fact, maybe even less because the same folks who are venerating the split window now, might have laughed at the split then and thought that it was a good idea when Chevy stayed with the one-piece rear window til '67. So if the naysayers who love them so much didn't buy their very own Split Window when they were $1500, then don't be criticizing someone who customized their own car however they wanted to. I recently got a copy of the Rod and Custom that the Outer Limits appeared in and will post a separate topic on that. .
I’ve always loved custom or hot rodded Vetts. Just couldn’t bring myself to messing with those beautiful lines when I redid mine back in 1985 : IMG_3733 by bowie posted Aug 1, 2014 at 6:57 PM
Jerry Pennington's "Orange Ray", Sixties-built 1963 (ex-)Split Window. George Barris' "Asteroid", Sixties-built 1963 (ex-)Split Window.
Orange Ray was by Jerry Pennington, here in Michigan. Had some talent although this was not his most outrageous piece-actually pretty sedate for him.
Man, the outer limits corvette was a great car as Ray built it. what happened to it later when it got modernized is a shame. I was a phone bidder on this car when it went thru one of the auctions a few years back and I gave up when it got over 40 grand, I wish I would have got it and restored it to the way it was when Ray first built it....
