The aluminum sheet is 3003 H14, and the thickness is .063. You will have to find a suplier that deals in all types of aluminum, most metal supliers only cary the generic 5000 series aluminum which is way to hard to shape.

This is definitely NOT a traditional car,but here are pix of my buddies '39 Chevy fender after an encounter with the rear tire on my coupe and while it is being fixed. The hammer & dolly man is the best we have around here.

The car at least had the hinges on it so I started there. I used some 1 " angle for the outside of the frame and 1/2 " square tubing for the cross bars. I made cuts all the way down the angle to get the curve and then tacked them into place once I got the right shape. The cross bars I bent over a tire to get the curve. The sheet metal pretty much just needed a little tacking here and there to get the curve. I cut the skin just at the bottom in the middle to make it fit. Kinda like chopping a top. The last pic is after everyone in the shop and cutomers touched every inch of it , and the rear lower panel I made as well. This was the first decklid I made, I learned alot doing it.

Looks like it fits good. I'm going to try and tackle one for my sport coupe. I've made a smaller panel for the back of my sedan. I rolled it on my wheel with just a flat wheel to give it a little curve both ways. Seemed to work well. Thought about making the deck lid in two pieces. Not sure yet.

This is some of the nose tin work being done on the Bonneville modified roadster we're building. I've learned a lot about tin bending from Doug @ Kruse Aluminum, Thanks Doug!
