One of the greatest names in drag racing has passed. Jim Thornton was one of the founding members of the Ramchargers and driver of some of the legendary Super Stock-A/FX-Funny Cars that are so fondly rememberd by those who watched them in action. I had the honor of getting to know him and the other Ramchargers when they attended some of the Super Stock Reunions I organized 25 years ago. He was 77. My condolences to his family.
That's really sad. He was one of the old great ones. I never met Jim, or saw his cars run. Did drool on the pages of hot rod magazines with the Ramchargers cars with Jim driving when I was in high school though. --- Steve ---
I read that about a year ago. It's really good reading. Their first project "The High & Mighty" altered was about as cool as it gets. --- Steve ---
