Sorry, know it's OT but I'm not on other forums I could ask, besides you guys know more.

Real quick - not a Chevy guy - will an '80 HEI distributor off a 350 work on a '91 305 (yes, carbureted)?

Couple of answers and this thread can self-destruct. Next question will be about my 48, promise. :)

    Thanks! ~Scott in TX

Being that a 1980 hei dist is all inclusive , meaning the pole piece , reluctor, module, coil are all in one it really can be used about anywhere it will fit , including a 1991 305

What Grahamsc said Pretty Much sums it up. I have used the same HEI distributor (originally) in my 305 '78 Camino on a 350 and a 400 small block. Very User Friendly............ Jeff

The GM HEI distributor will fit in all small blocks ans big blocks too. There is not a better distributor made, very easy to install

If the 1991 engine has a roller cam, you will need to change the distributor gear.

Basically if it has a vacuum advance on it it is a stand alone unit that only needs the wire from the Keyed electrical connection to work. Without the vacuum advance are computer controlled advance units. They have an extra plug to connect to the computer.
