My first recollection of billet was inhe teh early eighties in Street Rodder magazine. They always kissed boyds ass more than anyone else at the time. I remember it being a red (of course) '33 3 window coupe built for texas oilman Jamie Mussleman. I am probably wrong, but with what memoory I have left, its what I remember. It was a bad-ass car. :

For anyone who was there as the trend got rolling will have to admit it started with Buterra and the two '29 roadsters (one for himself which he sold to Corno and the second when he wanted the first back and Corno agreed if he built a replacement with a rumble seat.) He just couldn't see spending the money for high priced repo parts when he had a mill and box of aluminum scrap at his disposal. Walla!!!! Instant hi-tech/billet. He made a set of wheels by carving some centers and attaching them to rims from centerline. Enter Boyd and a partnership to build some one off wheels. Boyd wanted to go big time, Buterra didn't think there was a market for wheels that would have to be priced high to make money so he opted out of the deal. Score one for Boyd. From keeping track of Buterra over the years (he's one of my heros) I'm convinved he can't stand still for long, has to "move on" to the next challenge (can you spell easily bored?)
Along with this discussion it might be interesting to remember that L'il John said the billet thing was like looking at a used bar of soap, all of the sharp edges gone like it was softened and subjected to a wind tunnel.
Bottom line, you'll never end the debate on how it all started (my perspective is from the early Buterra era) but if you want to get really exact C9 is more correct, it's the first time anyone bolted a homemade aluminum part on a car.

Yup, easiest to blame Buttera and Asshole Boyd. It's funny how Buttera is friend's with "old school" follower Jesse James. Like I care anyway. I just want the bastartd's money. Who cares when it started? Let's figure out when it's gonna END!!! [IMG] [IMG] Tweed interiors give ma e headache.

It takes a year or two to discover a trend and then gear up for production.

Speaking of the Mooneyes logo being trademarked, AND not to jump tracks with this post, but have you guys seen faggot Ashton Kutcher's clothing company called "Zoo York"? He's got a hat design with the Mooneyes eyes on it. Von Dutch was ruined, now Dean Moon? Come on you fashion fucks, invent yer own shit already! [IMG]

  7. The billet movement was invented just after the mullet movement.
