I love the car. To me, the blackwalls are without doubt the correct choice for this car. The redlines just make it look like you are trying to make the car appear as something it isn't. I don't care about correctness of a few years, but they just ain't proper on this car.

Redlines were more often on "fancy" muscle cars, trimmed out hardtops and the like, and that's always been what I've identified them with. They started out on GMs, but were on Mustangs and Fairlanes until '67 as well. That Dodge is a beautiful plain jane post sedan, and those always looked best (imo) with what you have, black walls and dog dish caps. Very aggressive, I wouldn't change it.

Thanks for the kind comments on the car...and the various opinions.

Yeah, I am sticking with black walls though.

After seeing the photo shop the red lines lost me.

Byron, I have one of the new Sun tachs in my coupe...it works good.

    I'd stay with the blackwalls.

After seeing the photoshop, I agree...blackwalls.

Performance cars had black walls in my area in those years. White walls and Red lines were on the all show and no go cars. Your car looks like it means business...I wouldn't change a thing. You selected the dog dish caps just for that look. Don't change horses in mid stream. JMHO

Looks like an umarked cop car. Redlines don't do anything for it.

Not always. My buddy bought a 37,000 mile 68 Roadrunner, you know, the first ones that were bare bones rubber matted Beveder Taxi mode with a big engine. In the trunk the spare was a redline on black rim, never been on the ground. Did some reserch and that would of been the correct tire for the car new.
I agree, my first though was the redlines would look good, the photoshop changed my mind!

Hey Merc, I was thinking blackwalls but wasn't entirely certain until the Photoshop. Like you, that sealed the deal and I have noticed that since that post most of the replies are in favor of the blackies. BTW, it is a very nice car and the blackwalls with caps give is a businesslike appearance.

Looks sinister as all hell with the blackwalls. Keep them!!! I think the redlines are too distracting.

    Killer car.

  12. That car is the shit. Don't change a thing.

Well, maybe a set of cheater slicks on white hoops for the track...:)

Hell, I am dumber than most of you already think I am...

I am sitting here bitching about how the tires don't match and wondering about red lines when the solution has been around all the time and I should have already thought about it.

Leave the front tires alone and get some pie crust black wall hurst radial cheater slicks...hmmm, how do you guys like that idea?

In other words, good call catus1 except I don't think I would dig the white wall part on this car.

  20. Not white walls, white wheels! (but just on the back.) Word to your mother.

I think the reason I like your car with the blackwalls is that it has a drag car vibe. Soooo, if you think you will have as much fun driving the car with the pie crust slicks as you do now then go for it. The drag car appearance will definitely amp with with old school lookin' slicks.

  25. BLACK!!! redlines only belong on british tr6.

  26. Nice car. I am not opposed to redlines..but on this car, the black walls just seem to "work".

  27. I think you are right. At least the first car I recall seeing with redlines was a GTO.

That is the one thing about trying to be trad that is hard for me. I loved wide ovals and redline tires on specific cars and can't quite remember when they hit the market [FYI blackwalls was always more my style but it was more of a cash flow issue]. If you are trying to get past the trad cops you can still pull it off because they probably don't remember either. :D

Yea black walls definatley look better on that one. They just make it look all biddness.

    Merc
I like the radial cheater that diamond back sells. The only down side to them looks wise is that the sidwall doesn't have big thumb grooves in it just a mild piecrust look. From what I understand they get real sticky when they get hot. At least that's what one of the fellas told me at Joplin last year.

Edit damnit: I really got to start reading the entire post before I post.
