I've got a lead on a complete drive train from a 66 Dodge Coronet (four door or I would just grab the whole car). My question for all of you mopar gurus is what motors would have come in these vehicles. Depending on what motor it is I may pick it up. I've got a 1940 plymouth business coupe that may be a candidate for some mid 60s Mopar goodness. Thanks
pretty much anything could have come in it, here's a list 225 slant 6 273 LA <----oops forgot this one first go-round 318 poly 361 2bbl 383 4bbl 426 wedge 426 hemi most likely a 318 or 361
Yep Look for something wierd written on the carb cover like firecracker or dinomite of something like that.
almost sure it's a 318 poly. Is it worth picking up. I'd like to have a v8 setup for my coupe but I'd also like something a little more traditional. If I keep the flathead six, I'd probably add a dual carb setup and split the exhaust manifolds for duals. with the v8 I keep thinking about a tri carb setup and headers. Opinions wanted.
The 318 poly was never really a performance engine, so if you want to do a traditional engine swap, using an engine that would be likely to have been swapped in many years ago, the 318 isn't it.....try something that came from the factory with some suds, like a 413, early hemi, etc.
Thanks for the feedback. I've heard alot about the poly motors not being as desirable as the hemi. I wonder how easy or difficult it would be to swap out the six for the 318 even if it isn't a good candidate for a traditional setup. the idea of 200+ hp. is appealing especially if I'm going to enjoy driving it on the interstate.
