Has anyone here see the Q/C that Honest Charlie is selling? I have heard that it is a clone of the Halibrand unit that uses Ford axle housings. I'm considering a Q/C for the roadster so I can make the run to Bonniville next year.
Regarding the Wilson "Speed Demon" quickchange. The reason to use modern slip in axles is to simplify repair and maintaince and to use more easily replaced axles. The failure point will be the pinon support. Bob has told me NOT to treat his QC like a 9-inch because it uses the stock Ford banjo pinon support. I think he's being cautious, but if I was racing Bonneville, and my week might come to a quick end if it let go, I think I'd look for a stronger rear end. Now if I was at Little River Academy dragstrip with a modified.....that's a different story.
I don't know, the quickchange was used almost exclusivly at boneville type racing in the day, and although there are better things now, with all new parts it should hold up ok. As long as you have the saftey drum retainers on the axles I wouldn't be too worried. If something brakes you fix it, that's all.
I think you guys mis-read my post. I want the Q/C so I can drive my roadster "to" Bonneville. I'll be driving from Cape Cod Ma. I need to cruise at 65-70 and want to keep the revs down to around 2K. A friend said there was someone at Hersey selling a clone of the Hallibrand Q/C. He said it looked like the real deal. I thought he said it was at the Honest Charlie booth. The winters Q/C looks close but not quite.
Do you HAVE to convert to open driveline with this or can you keep the closed torque tube shaft? Will an original Halibrand cover bolt on to this unit?
