TOMMY IVO BUICK CONNECTION? Hello, In watching old Tommy Ivo films that I took a long time ago, I came across the Buick connection in his race group. From the time we saw him with his single injected Buick FED at Lions in 1958-59, the red and white two toned Buick hardtop was the prominent push car for the single, FED race cars. 1958-59 injected Buick motor 1959 671 Buick motor The same red and white Buick sedan was still the primary push vehicle for the newly created injected twin Buick FED, or was it? 1960…Did the Buick connection end with a "newish" 1957 Cadillac? Lions Dragstrip Pits- white 1957 Cad 1960 Bakersfield white 57 cad (opening with a wheelie) We all wonder if this was a “gift” from local sponsorships for a well-deserved drag racer and/OR a great publicity stunt. With Don Prudhomme driving the Cadillac (studio rules) and being the crew chief, they toured the USA…in the 1957 Cadillac and the Buick twin. "Times, they are a changing..."
This old photo was the inspiration for the drawing and researching some historic facts. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3-11-22-friday-art-show.1258448/#post-14413978 Hello, The Burkholder Brothers have a very long history in the California drag racing scene. Their original coupe information, was given to me by Harry Burkholder. old Friday Art, my version... Here is some information from those old posts: So, no one forgets, a long time before the Burkholder Brothers Fiat Coupe we have all seen in the photos everywhere, are the only remnants of history, here is something a little earlier. 1959 Harry Burkholder 1958-59 to the Kingdon March Meet, 63 years ago. Brothers, Pete and Harry Burkholder, along with friend, Joe Radan made up the P B J Racing Team. (B was Harry’s nickname: Burk) Early drag racing coupes? A big 671 sitting on an Oldsmobile motor makes some noise. A Red, Ford 5 window with some attitude… what is not to like? And... early scallops to boot! Speed Gems said: That's the first time I've seen it with the pink scallops. It usually has a '55 Chevy push truck behind it or with the roof bashed in I think @jnaki Did some artwork of it. Wow, thank you…someone actually looks at my funky drawings… YES! I did a similar drawing based on what they did for color. The yellow flames looked better on my artistic discretion. After all, that is what art is, “through the eyes of the beholder…” But, I had it in the same folder if I decided to use it later in another thread. So, this is a good time to do so… YRMV The film and photos were sent to me from Harry Burkholder. The rest was a long search for information. Good old High School English class "learning to research" refining technique in college, pays off again. Jnaki The red, white and blue Push Truck would fit right into a thread for July 2023... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...no-explanation.1143737/page-643#post-14619163
Thanks. I had planned to take a hunk of logging chain and wail on the middle of the push off board to give it some "used patina", but in the end I just could not bring myself to abuse it, after hand painting it.
