anyone know anything i can soak the motor with to get the carbon off the pistons and valves and also get the rust out of the head ?,thanks and many apologies if this has been brought up before,oh it's a flat head six,L head.
If it's just a light film of carbon, don't worry about it. If it's too thick, a wire brush in a drill and/or a wood chisel will get rid of it. Any solvent will wash all the crud down around the sides of the pistons where you can't get it out, unless you plan on tearing it down anyway.
thanks, yeah i am worried about getting crap down in the motor, will change oil but don't want to get into a total rebuild, car stopped running and have tried everything so hoping for a stuck valve.
a valve stuck open won't cause the car to quit running altogether. is the engine siezed? As in--will not spin at all--by hand or otherwise? EDIT-- read the title again, the head is off- have you pulled the manifolds and the side covers to see what's going on in there?
