I've been putting in a lot of time on the five window. Changes this week were the switch to steelies that I found in a junkyard. 15x7" out back and 15x5 1/2" on front. The fronts were hard to find in an early Mopar or Ford pattern, but I found a pair. Lately it seems when you go to a boneyard and tell them what youre doing, they look at you as if you have three heads. My yard is great. the guy has a '34 C-dan thats flattie powered. He gets it when most others don't. Prices are cheap too. So anyway, the steelies were prepped and painted a cream color. I'm running 205/75/15's up front and 275/70/15's out back. All my tires came from Pep Boys. I eayballed them perfectly and gave the car a radial rake that I'm proud of. Next I began stripping off thick layers of crap paint on the front axle and suspension components. People over the years kept painting over chips and runs, creating a poor looking surface. I took everything down to metal and smoothed it all out with 400 grit, primed and painted. Looks 100% better. Now the car is telling me to get rid of those damn Jet Hotted T-Bucket pipes and put on the Lakes style that are hanging in my garage. Took her out for a test beat around the block. Wow...what a difference in handling and ride! That big block really lights up those "little" tires too! Smoked em by accident at the first light I came to! Big change from the 15 1/2" wide Mickey Thompsons that were on there! I'm really happy with the progress so far. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Next changes are the fore mentioned pipes and bigger/lower mounted, headlights! Spike
I'm guessing they may be common, but are your 15 x 7's off a late Ford/Merc with the 4 1/2 x 5 pattern? If so, which year. And would you know the backspace perchance? Reading the post, the car sounds great. Pics though, we need pics....
C9- they are indeed 5 on 4 1/2". I have no idea what they came off as they were already loose and free of rubber. back spacing looks to be about 5 1/2". I know I had a hard time finding them or even a yard that has that stuff anymore. good salvage yard guys are getting as hard to find as good parts counter guys. Spike

I tried taking a pic of me smoking the hides but everytime I jumped out of the car I released the brakes and got ran over by myself. God I hate that. Yes, i am a photographer but I have no pictures of the latest changes. I suck. Yes I was thinking of doing an article for CKD for those of us that are fabricationally impared. ( Is that a real word?? ) I need to hang out with other photographers that are into cars. I have a zillion pictures of car people and none of me. Then again, that may be a good thing... Spike

I've had that problem with salvage yards too. It seems like unless you want a door for a 2002 Civic you're out of luck. Anyway, I went to a hubcap place to find wheels for my truck. You may have luck that way where you live.

Thanks for the wheel info. I can probably find what I want in this locale. Seems a lot of stuff like steelies and the like are still in local junkyards. It's surprising what you find in the yards up here. Every once in a while, something from the 50's is sitting in the way back, weeds growing through, just going to seed. I like painted cars. I even like yellow cars - cept for the bugs. But I must say, your coupe looks way better in the flat black. Nice stance too, specially that front angle shot.
