Projects Project "AREA 51" 51 Mercury update

That looks like a nice set of teeth. I had to buy two full sets to get one good one and I don't think it's that nice.

 

Im a bit scared to ask what its going to cost to rechrome mine!!!!

 

I sent the worst one off to a plater to look at. I havn't heard back and I'm afraid to call...

 

We got lucky on that grill (found the grill in AZ) and it came complete with a 53 desoto sedan too! Anyone need 53 desoto bumpers? I am probably using the tailights and slddnmatt earned the hemi by pickin up the car on his trailer.

 

Since we are on the subject of Desoto teeth. Have you ever noticed on the Wally Welch Merc that it looks like they are set way back and that it looks like they partly under the grille pan, or part of the teeth was removed.

 

That is a smooth look, though I prefer more teeth and more of the teeth showing on my project. A very cool approach on the Welch merc; what a classic custom.

 

Who did you send yours tooth to and do ya have a pic of it??

 

Quality plating in Yuma Colorado. This picture show how a picture can be deceiving. About half of the teeth you see have cracks. The tooth I sent in is #11 and not in the picture.

 

Let me know what they hit ya for. Im a bit leary to ask myself!!!!

 

So still planning dark maroon, how is the color research going?

 

Dark maroon spray outs being shot as we speak. Nothing metalic just a traditional base color that will never go out of style.

Just a little mud on the front clip for now but it feels like Im so close!! I cant thank the buddy who is doing it enough!!!!!

REALLY BAD DAY TODAY!!!!!!!! A good buddy and I went over to work on my merc today. Installed a new PS pump with the different PS box we put on it. We were going to go to his house to button up a few things on the 51 Vicky he is building. We didnt quite make it due to a PS hose letting go and pumped a PS pump worth of fluid up over the driverside. Fluid was running down the drip rail and the door was soaked!!!! Roof, quarter, and inside!! All over the DP90 primer. Spent the next 6 hours trying to get it off. Im not sure I can sleep tonight!! IM SICK!!!!

 

Man that sucks I had something like that happen the day before I got married but mine was 4 quarts of tranny fluid and I was driving the car to be pin stripped "just married" on the back lucky I has a gallon of tranny fluid in the trunk and a hose clap a pen to connect the two halves and enough luck to figure it out on the side of the rode. Good Luck with the clean up I feel for you.

It's about to get to the point where you're going to have to do this if you want a 2 door car. People want too much for good 2 door cars. Plus look at the joy you will have once you get through the gaits of hell and actually get to start enjoying driving that car. That is one BADASS ride. You are the man. Keep up the good work.

I really appreciate the comments. Its been a long work involved road but definatelly starting to pay off!

Sam, that is exactly the dilema!!! Couldnt afford a twodoor but this solid 4 door was priced just right. I got lucky with the doors and the twodoor shell that a coupe HAMBers (GMGRUNT Jeff Higel and Dennis Lesky from Ionia hot rod shop) helped me by hauling it down from Michigan. The conversion is scarry easy!!!!!!! That and someone told me It couldnt be done!!!!!

 

Nice, so it's getting bodywork and paint now? Did you go with maroon or are you gonna surprise us?

John, I have a color in mind and the painter is doing spray outs right now. Im about to pull the trigger on a color and we are going to shoot a panel to see if its the one. Im leaning on a deep medium cabernet (sp?) nonmetallic. Finding a color with no trash in it that wont turn brown or purple in certain light. That is whats hard. Im hoping it doesnt take a year to get it back!
