Don't ever put down dumb luck! Better than bad luck! Lookin' good pardner. Do you have anything to base your header wood off of? I drew up some dimensions off a coupe header my buddy had, and whittled one up last year. I may still have dimensions in the garage.
I'll take dumb luck any day of the week if it helps me ... lord knows I would've never made it this far. Regarding the header : Not at the moment. No. That's why I haven't made an attempt at making one yet. I've been looking on here and on line. Not sure they're same on the Coupe and the sedan/truck. I found some info but nothing real definitive yet. If you have any info that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mike. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
don't know about '28-'29's... '30-'31 coupe headers are different than '30-'31 tudor / truck headers... one is taller....... which one ? have one I trimmed but did not use... buddy uses 1" x 2" steel tube, trims the ends to match the roof's contour, he trims the panel under the visor and welds the top section of it to the front / face of the 1" x 2"... I did it on a '30 coupe, worked ok, that's why I have the leftover wooden one... pix on my frozen laptop...
I had thought of doing that exact same thing. Even bought the stock for it. Problem is I have no clue what the roof line actually is. I had nothing to start with. That's why I needed a template it measurements to create one. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
mike, the '28-'29 header was flat,[ one for sale on ebay, good pix] then had a thin flat on bottom but radiused [channel / rail] that ran along the top edge for the roof's insert to nail through... the visor slid in and bolted between the two... it may have had a tack strip [wood] within it... visor is kinda 2 pce... buddy uses trimmed '30-'31 visors on his chopped '28-'29's... I may have a '30 visor ? LMK.
I stopped over Joes house (51box) and picked up a old header from him. At that time I saw his 28 Coupe he's building (which is amazing) that he put a 30/31 visor on. I really like the look of it compared to the 28/29 visor. The 28/29 visor has real straight lines and doesn't flow like the 30/31 So now I have the header I'm not sure I'm actually going to run it. But I have it for measuring things and getting the roof square. Also have been thinking of making a few changes as I've been working on the wood pieces. But I'll figure things out as I go Thank you guys for the help and support. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Having a roof on a hot rod looks like a lot more work. Wood, glass, garnish moldings, window mechanisms, visors, etc. Just bustin' balls Mike, looks great bud! Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thank you for the pic. Huge help. I actually already made the curved angled piece for the pass side. I did not know there was a thin horizontal piece that connects the side window and the rear wood. Looks like it would've made my life a hell of a lot easier. BUT ! Luck would have it after I had the piece I made (that took about 4 hrs.) I forgot I tucked it up into position and rolled my car outside. It fell out and broke in half so I get to make two more. Go me ! Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Its crossed my mind several times watching you build your car that you didn't have to worry about all the roof crap like my car. But there's always a hurdle along the way. As you know Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Oh I'm enjoying the ride for sure. Happy to have a roof and all the bits n pieces that go with it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Stepped up my tool game and finally got my sub panel wired. Leon Adam's Air Compressor fired right up and is a welcomed addition to my backyard shop. Cheers "It's a great life"...Indeed it is Someday Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thank you, I try to keep it organized. It helps my brain. It's not a very big space but it does the trick. Id like to finish the ceiling this winter. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Project is coming along awesome Mike. I will have to try an get down there and check it out soon, thats a neat garage too!
Thanks Chris, Door is always open for anyone who wants to take a ride over. It was once upon a time a "bulb barn" in the late 1800's I was told by a local. Has a hardwood flooring and a full walk in basement under it. It's unique. I vaulted the ceiling a few years back. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
snuck down there this AM... got the rest of the w/s frame mounting screws in... all the swing arm bosses, nuts, washers, pads, screws, knobs ETC. ... tapped for and installed the garnish molding screws ... spray bomb coat of black on the '36 /'40 dash... ... OUT FOR LUNCH... ... nap ? ...
No question mark needed for the nap... regained consciousness and put all the hose clamps on the gas line system,,, [8]... I put in dual level pick ups, upper one, 2.5" above empty = regular... lower one, .5" above empty = reserve... ball valve in each line running to a T before the pump lets me easily convert from reg. to reserve.... pix if needed...
@Mikel50 - nice tools & garage. I like neatness, too. Nothing irritates me more than not being able to find something I know I have. @sloppy jalopies - good idea on the dual pickups. I may have to borrow that one.
Oh I still can't find things haha. But my shop is clean ... I put things away and can never find them. Blessing and a curse I suppose ♂️ Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Its been a while since you posted an update. Making any progress?? I need some inspiration!!! Lately I don't even feel like going in the garage and doing anything. Your garage is even cooler in person than the pictures show!
