    The dash looks great, especially looking out over the louvers. The video is a little bit pornographic. Some shekka shekka wow wow music would be hilarious.

    folding a sheet metal molding for closures before the cheeks of the front fenders.

  9. Ditch the fan and the shrouds - put vents in the wings. Gets you a couple of horsepower - big deal when you've only got 29BHP to start with... Put a bigger oil cooler on if you do that...

    If you want to put an SU carb on that I can let you have an adapter - but with your skills you can probably sort that out yourself.

    I love the dash molding !!


    J adore le tableau de bord et les fausses ailes avant. Ca me donne des idées.
    Simple et efficace. Ca doit pas etre facile a faire, mais j essaierai. Ca fait un peu steam punk je trouve, melangé a du custom .

  16. The 2CV engine is better engineered, made from better quality materials and is a lot tougher than the VW unit.

    How much power has been squeezed out of one of these? I´ve seen turbos used.
     
  18. If you've worked on both engines then there'd be no doubt. Longevity is another clue to which engine is better.

    The maximum from a normally aspirated 2CV engine running Visa pistons and barrels and 15:1 compression would be about 60 BHP. In the Experimental 2CV Racing class anything goes and they have been turbo-charged and fuel injected to get over 100 bhp.

    No one is perfect.

    Even when Tom was actively writing there were uglier cars (although many of them were not being marketed in the US).

    "Utilitarian" is a better way to describe the looks of the 2CV.

  22. Speaking of "better engineering", we were in Germany years ago (visitng my grandparents) and were stuck in one of those 20 mile backups on the Autobahn.

    As we passed the wreckage, my dad pointed out what was left of a 2CV that was in the midst of the accidents, and had been hit from behind/pushed into the car in front of it- looked like a little triangle of tin sitting on the asphalt. let's just say that there was no question that no one survived.

    I´d have expected more than 100 hp. Are they restricted on capacity or something?
     
  24. They're using the 2CV crankcase and Citroen Visa pistons and barrels so it's never going to be much more than 650cc - maybe 700cc. The thing is that Citroen bored out the motor to pretty much it's maximum anyway. It started at 375cc, went to 425cc and then jumped to 602cc. This opened out the crankcase absolutely as large as it could go. It is difficult to stroke it because the rods and crank are pressed together and it's not possible to dismantle it. You can bore out the barrels and fit larger pistons but you run into the same problems of overheating and seizures that the VW boys get. For example, if you bore out a standard 2CV engine to get 675cc then the barrel walls are about 1.5mm thick.

    The bottom end is stout though and I think there'd be advantages to smoothing it all out and balancing. 8000 revs is easily possible. The mostly standard 2CV engine in my Avion sees 7000 revs regularly and still feels like it wants to rev more.

    The other issue is that very few people are tuning 2CV engines, they are generally tightwads who begrudge spending anything and most of them don't really know what they're doing - you can tell this by the level of "secrecy" surrounding 2CV engine tuning. It's secret because they probably haven't done anything. In the hot rodding world it's easy to find out what to do to get a specific horsepower from an SBC. It's only at the extreme edges of competition engine development that people are secretive about their engine tuning.

    BTW - we probably shouldn't be hijacking this guys thread ;-)

    Now, even if I put out my eyes, I will never be able to lose that hideous image from my memory.

    Suddenly the 2CV looks kinda pretty, and Mika's is downright gorgeous - well, in an ugly duckling kinda way.

    That's a pity: using VW barrels and pistons, assuming there is enough meat in the crankcase at the relevant places, would give a useful jump in capacity, without bore:stroke ratios far out of stock VW territory. The 85.5mm bore of a 1600 will give an 804cc 2CV; using 92mm bits from a 2-litre bus gives 931cc.

  29. Ned - using VW pistons and barrels would be wonderful. A 1 litre 2CV would be great in terms of power and economy.

    Unfortunately, the problem can easily be seen.... Any thoughts on solutions would be gratefully received....

    Mika - sorry again for hijacking. I will move this discussion over to Cyclecars if people want to continue - I think it will be relevant because a Deux Chevaux engine with a little more punch would be ideal for a cyclecar.

    I love doing it for my engine .

    if you made ​​another post I want 2 cv mechanical be aware .
