Hi , does anybody know what engine/Transmissin adapters are these? I have them laying ariund forever and no clue what they are for Tia Micky
the other is a Buick nailhead to standard GM transmission, isn't it? https://transmissionadapters.com/co...-nailhead-bellhousing-for-manual-transmission looks like a currently available version of it
I can see that 2&5 are truck, but what is the clue that it is only '55-'59. It looks just like the one in the '65 I used to have and maybe even the '70 3/4 ton, but that's been over 30 years ago.
I thought the 3 bolt starter ended in '59, but I don't know nothin' either … it'll be which way the mounts mount that determines it's origin.
The 60-62 trucks used a hydraulic clutch, different bellhousing. The 63-72 trucks used a wider release fork, and the 68-72 had a larger center hole for the SM465 transmission. The 55-57 car bellhousings were very similar to the 55-59 truck, but had two smaller mounting bolt holes on each ear, instead of one 1/2" hole.
Also, the '55 to '67 truck bellhousings for the sm420 will only have the two upper transmission mounting holes threaded, as pictured above, as the lower bolts go into the transmission from inside the bellhousing.
All the truck bellhousings will have the bottom two holes as through holes. The 3 speed transmissions for them have the lower two ears threaded. at least that's how I remember it...they might have changed this with the intro of the 465?
Good to know that about the truck 3 speeds, I also just looked at my '70 bellhousing and it's 465 has the lower bolts threaded in from the inside, which puts me at 0 for 4 for the week so far. Back to lurking
