Ok I purchased cragar 15x4.5 for my 64 straight axle nova. I did some research and decided on a 165 80 15 front tire. I put the rim and tire on and they looked way to small... They didnthave look rightgood at all..My question is would a 205 75 15 be to big of a tire? The reason im looking at those is because the tire store I got the tires from will let me trade the tires in even though they were previously mounted. Thats the closest tire size they off to what I have. Any advice would ne greatly appreciated..

Well, the 165's are 25.39 tall and the 205's are 27.11 tall, a difference of only about an inch and 3/4. Do you think that much difference will fit the look you are after ?

Why don't you post some pictures of the car with the 165's on it so we can offer some better opinions ?

All I can tell you is I tried the same thing with 205/75/15 Cooper Trendsetter. I picked up vibration like a out of balance situation. I balanced the tires three times with the same result. Put on a different pair of tires , same result. Put it on the alignment rack, every thing was right on. Put on a wider set of rims and problem disappeared. All I could figure was the sidewall and tread were just to wide for the narrow rim. Put the drag tires back on the narrow rims and again no problem.

The pic above is my old metric tire and its about 1 1/2 taller tire. Looks similar from the pics but in person 165 looks to small.

THE PICTURE OF YOUR CAR LOOKS GREAT! Those 165/80/15's are basically VW tires and should be fine on those narrow rims.

I wouldn't change a thing, they look just right to me. If anything, the back ones could be a little taller, but that is just my opinion. I think the tires in the second picture are too tall.

Back tires are 255 60. The new tires dropped the front over 1 inch from the old height

Those look pretty good to me. I'm running the same size Cragar's on my Comet with Pro-Trac 5.60 x 15's...........they look just right.

The 205s are more likely to rub the frame on hard turns.

If the drop in ride height bothers you, put some spring spacers or whatever it takes on the type of suspension you are running to get it back up again.
