This is totally out of my wheelhouse but couldn't pass up this car. It was put together a long time ago as a basic hot rod. I have all the original fenders running boards hood etc. also fiberglass fenders that were on car. Original seat still in car. Not sure what Im going to do with it yet, I like the look with the fiberglass fenders. Seeing how scarce parts are most likely a stripped hot rod. basic rebuild I'm thinking.
The wood ,would scare me, pun intended. I have a friend who picked up a solid ( rust free ) 31 cabriolet but needs wood. The complete wood kit is just a touch over $7,000.00 which I think is insane.
A lot of guys replace the wood with steel. Here's an early thread that talks about replacement. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1930-chevy-replacing-the-wood-with-steel.526069/ Complete wood replacement kits are expensive but if you consider the amount of work to create all of the pieces you might see why
maybe pull back the upholstery along the lower B pillar and check the condition of the wood.. IMO... that is the area that has had the worst life... . also with today's glues one could replace only the bottom 12" and have the splice stronger than the wood...
Congrats - check, service all of drivetrain, brakes, etc - add seat belts - drive it and have fun now
The wood is really solid no real issues its all exposed, and the metal is all unpatched from what I'm seeing, not sure if original green paint or a really old repaint. It needs some of the window channel pieces but glass is there and roll up and down just a little loose from lack of side channels. I'll post some more pics tomorrow showing interior and more detail of body. Any help where to find window parts etc appreciated. This is my first wood frame and was scared till I looked at the car and figured it seems solid and I see no rotted or broken areas, so home it came with me. I'm a chevy guy and never really see any of these at shows so I was hooked when I saw it.
It runs great brakes work fine I may run it to a few local end of season shows but then Its in garage and figure out what path I'm taking. guy pulled fenders and put lake headers on so need to change to throw fenders back on they don't clear.
Nice car. I like the full fender/running board look myself. That said, it's your car to do as you please.
Nice car - as has been said, get everything in good working order and drive it. I also like the full fendered look - good luck with it!
Nice ride, a customer built a bitchin 31 Coupe and did Model A front xmember and axle setup. Looked a lot like a 32 Ford actually. We are currently working on a 36 Standard 2 door and have well over $15,000.00 in getting the Wood out and fully reconstructing everything out of Steel. Now if only I could come up with a way to charge myself and on personal vehicles.
Very neat looking car, I really like the fenders as others have said, I can see where it would be nice to rework some stuff (proper details on that engine, some different wheel centers, etc.) but overall looks like a great starting point.
Not sure why the pictures kept posting in duplicate, took these with my phone not sure how well you can see. But I cant find a patch in metal or dent on inside that would indicate filler. The wood is all solid and not tore up. Missing trim pieces for windows and most of interior is long gone some of the covering is still attached behind seat area. Guess once I start working on it I will pull seat and get everything visible and start and inventory of what needs fixed or replaced.
great looking car, here is a thread on how i redid my 33 coupe. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/33-chevy-3w-time-for-a-cool-change.863287/
