Looking for pics and information on rare SBC parts....is there such a thing??:D
Yeah, yeah....they're a boring engine to alot of folks...but with the right stuff, are a really good lookin' engine.
I believe Bass has some old staggerbolt Weiand VC's that are WAY cool and rare...
And I'm still looking for a SBC Roto-Faze...

What other stuff was made for SBC's, that for one reason or another, are pretty rare....intakes, valve covers, headers, whatever...

    Let's see it guys!:)

i met Joe Panek who made the roto-faze when i was in cali! super nice guy, seemed kinda bummed out, i felt bad. but he said he still makes them. and he still has his 392 coupe.... he said its rotting away in his back yard.. we offered to help get it going and he didnt seem like he cared anymore:(

anyway he gave me a catalog. says "roto-faze ignitions and equipment 23136 mariposa ave, torrance CA 90502 (310) 325-8844"

Yeah....but the one I'm looking for he no longer makes.:(

I plan on building an early 60's style coupe, and if I don't find a good deal on a Hemi or Olds, will be using my SBC.....it's got no bolt 327 heads on it, Cal Custom VC's and a Weiand 4x2 w/4 97's. Would like to add more neat parts to it....

I'd love to find a pair of Fenton cast iron headers for the 265-283. They were evidently used on the "Black Widow" '57 Chevrolets that competed in Nascar. I've bid or almost bid on a couple sets on ebay, but they always go out of my reach. I do have some early Hedmans that were made for hot rods, and they're pretty rare too.

I'm using the staggered bolt Weiand block letter valve covers on the 265 in my Roadster, and they are pretty rare. Hildebrandt valve covers for SBC used to be really rare, but they are being made again. I'd say that Fenton valve covers are probably one of the rarest for SBC now, but the block letter Weiands are pretty close. I've had a pair of Keystone valve covers for 265-283, and they're not common either.

I also have a pretty rare trans adapter that adapts a 265-283 to Mid-50's Ford/Merc 3 speeds that I'm using on the roadster too. And the cam for it is a fairly rare early Isky gear drive solid roller cam that uses the 2 gear Isky "positive" gear drive, and spins the cam backwards. The disributor gear is cut opposite from stock, but the gear on the cam is opposite too, so the distributor ends up turning normally.

Speaking of cams, I know a guy that has a complete Schaller "quarter speed" cam set-up for a SBC. Those are pretty damn rare.

I've got a Spalding Grant distributor for SBC, but they are pretty common compared to an early Rotofaze. Scintilla or Scheifer "Frankenstein" mags are pretty hard to come by also.

Probably the rarest speed parts I've seen for the early SBC are a complete Latham blower set-up; a Howard chain drive for a 4-71 on top of a SBC; and a Nicson in line two-deuce intake manifold. McGurk 6x2 intakes are pretty rare too, but I've seen a couple in the last few years.

Finding rare speed parts for the SBC is just as hard (or harder) than finding them for any other engine. Start looking and you'll find out.

Actually the 265 I'm building for the '29 Roadster is chock full of hard to find or rare parts...here's a list:

    -'56 265 Powerpack block, bored .125 over
-NOS Jahns (283 std) domed pistons for 1/4" stroker crank
-1/4" stroker crank cut down for the 265 block from a 327 steel crank, rebalanced with heavy metal
-Iskenderian solid roller gear drive cam, reground to my specs
-Iskenderian 2 gear positive gear drive
-Iskenderian early solid roller lifters with the interlocking tabs
-Iskenderian rev kit and NOS short pushrods
-'57 "Fuelie" 539 heads, ported and polished
-Weiand staggered bolt, block letter, finned valve covers
-Weiand 4x2 intake with Stromberg 97s
    -Weiand 4x2 fuel block
-Speed Gems adapter to '49-62 Ford/Merc 3 speed.
    -'56 Merc Borg Warner T-85 3 spd/OD trans.
    -Weber aluminum flywheel
    -Early Corvette 5qt oil pan
    -Early Hedman 265-283 headers

I did make a few modern concessions with good forged I-beam rods, moly rings, good main bolts, Comp Cams 1.52 roller rockers, and a new Vertex (hei-type) mag. But for the most part, it's an almost all vintage speed equipment style build. It's being machined and assembled by E.C. here on the HAMB, and I expect that it will be a screamer in the Model A roadster.

Good list Bass....your Isky cam sounds really interesting.

I've seen a few McGurk 6x2's at swaps, and the price (at the time) wasn't too bad. But I just couldn't pull the trigger on buying one.....

    Here's a Nicson 2x2. Hotrodarama 2007.

I got a pair of early M/T valve covers. M/T in the center, and fins all across... no popouts for oil fil or PCV. they say "327" on the inside. I've also seen a pair with no M/T on the outside.. just fins all the way across.

had a pair of SBC valve covers from the 80's with FORD script in the center... not sure who made those

another rare item I saw the other week at Turlock was a chevy V8/49-54 chevy 3 speed bellhousing/adapter. $125.00. pretty good price but I'd never use it.

how rare is a edelcock c3b?

  16. Krietz made some stuff back in the day.

The one thing that most of us have forgotten or never knew is that about '55 or so the SBC was cutting edge and not considered to be in the least bit boreing. If you're building a period corect hot rod and the '50s and '60s is your game then I would suspect that an SBC properly outfitted would be high on your list.

I always liked the early Offy valve covers w/o the pcv holes. Just fins and the Offy name in a box. Got a set for my 283.

those headers are pretty slick ;)

  23. The Man A Fre 4x2 intakes are still pretty rare yes?

I have a set of staggered NOS Cal Custom valve covers that are mint and have never been put on an engine judging by the lack of marks around the bolt holes.
