...This just screams "Thomas-Flyer" to me....at least the radiator and tell-tale Thomas "flying eagle" mascot both do. looks to be a 1912-1913 maybe?

Auto polo was played in the early 20th century using an, at the time, new technology called the automobile. The game looks dangerous but is said to have aided in bringing the automobile into the popular mainstream.

Definitely a Thomas from that era.
Those front fenders give it away.
Runabout model, but 1912 was the last year.

The fenders are certainly a dead give away. You are correct that this most likely a 1912...but it just has a 1913 "feel" to it The E.R. Thomas Motor Co. did fall into receivership at the end of 1912, but the company was purchased by C. A. Finnegan of the Empire Smelting Company who continued producing Thomas cars (which continued to be cataloged) through the end of 1916 and built "to order" as late as 1918 or possibly 1919. None of these cars from this period are known to survive today. This photo makes this car look VERY new (which is almost certainly the case), In that regard..when did Thomas start painting their radiators? I thought they where polished brass in 1912...could be wrong though :D

More fun with plates. Here is Finnegan's Thomas, registered to him in Depew, NY.

I really need a new camera. "Lythe in his Apperson around Graveyard Turn" my guess is this was somewere in Pennsylvania.

Not sure what this is. The front looks just like the early Franklins, but the cowl doesn't. Any takers? The idea of some clever outdoor type hauling a canoe behind his car 100 years ago is pretty cool...

This is the arrival of the Apperson racing team in Philadelphia for the Fairmont park race.
    From left to right.
    George E. Davis and Mechanic.
    Harris M. Hanshaw and mechanic
    George H. Strout, sales manager
Apperson Brothers Auto Co and wife

The photo from 1908 is George Davis.
Anyone know what race the number 3 cars are in?

My Grandparents out side their Garage in rural Saskatchewan w/ my Father & my Aunt.
Dad was born in 1927 so that would date this pic to the early 30's.
Only my Aunt is still with us.

    Welcome to the H.A.M.B.

    Nice photos.
The photo with the two cars wearing the #3 is very interesting. To me it looks very much like the 1908 Briarcliff, NY race. There was only one Apperson entered with Herb Lytle driving and finishing 4th. I'm assuming the other car was a spare.

Below are a couple of photos of Lytle from this particular race.

Thanks Kurtis, I have had an unnatural attraction to Appersons since I picked up the remains of a 1910 twenty years ago. The problem is there seems to be no surviving cars or parts from the 1906-11 time frame. I sure would like to know the history behind the garage photo. Looks like the end of the line for that Apperson.
Here is another photo of a 1907-8 Model K.

I don't mean to be a "Dick" about this but i couldn't find an Apperson wearing the #2 in any results from 1910. I'm guessing this car was driven by William McCulla at Indianapolis. IN. 19th-21st August 1909.

Go here for some more photos and one or two articles www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4994805&highlight=apperson

Well, if we are going to talk about "Dicks" here is one under the hood and another on the steet. Somewhere I even have one wraped around a tree. I will post when I find it.
