Nice group of cars, that streamliner has some neat history, think it was profiled in Open Wheel a few years ago. Glad there are some rich guys keeping the Offies running, I'd be afraid of touching one, and wrecking something. (Like the owner built hot rods just as much though.) Nice story.

From what I can recall from talking with the builder... and I've drank and slept since then..

It was built as a streamliner, raced in 1955, went to Indy and for some reason had the wheels exposed with the side-panels removed. It went even faster, like 170 or something. The driver fatally crashed it at another speed trial while at speed due to a flat front tire and a low scrub line.

It was fairly complete, but very rough, so they are restoring it back to its 1955 glory. He said they actually tracked down about 6 photos showing the bare chassis from when it was built, which is almost unheard of when restoring these old race cars. They had a complete buck made that they were shaping the panels over, and a full sized drawing on the wall. It was really cool to see in person.

Touching someone else's car? Ill do you one better: I walked back to my coupe at the GG Columbus last year and there was some clown SITTING in my coupe! WTF? I wanted to kill him; simply for having the nerve to do it.

As a magazine photo-journalist I know the frustration of being about to press the shutter button and have some cretin walk in front of you and stand there for no apparent reason. It's good to know that American dickheads are no different to Aussie dickheads.
