I'd like to share what I think are the correct parts condition definitions and see if I have the same views as everyone else. N.O.S.- New old stock. Parts that have never been on a car. Parts that have been sitting on the shelve, but are still old and not considered new. Rebuilt- Parts that have been taken apart,Cleaned and inspected, worn parts that fall below factory tolerences have been removed and replaced with new. Where the sum total of all its parts has been put back to factory tolerences and presumed ready for the road. New- Parts that have never been used or installed on a vehicle. Parts that were manufactured within a time that show no signs of dirt or bad finish on its surfaces,i.e. chrome pitting or rust. Reconditioned- Similar to rebuilt, but where certain parts are un available, the parts are machined or sleeved to put back as road worthy. Remanufactured- Similar to rebuilt, but with more attention to standards set by the factory specifications. Where old parts are recieved as cores only and that the part is total stripped of its accesories and re made. Any body care to add anything? Mikey
Alot of NOS parts are actually defective or backroom rejects that money hungry Ebayers pay tons of money for in huge lots. Almost everything I have bought for my 58 Ford wagon that is "NOS" was not a good part, or like I assumed to be, brand new in the box. Everything has defects.
'Restored' All the rust has been bondo'd up and a coat of shiny paint shot over everything, including the chrome trims, upholstery, tyres etc. 'Mint' Ditto but the paint is flat black, the wheels have been painted red, and straight pipes have been fitted to the exhaust ports. 'Project car' The rust is still hanging out of the body, but the new floor of expired registration plates and buckets of bondo has already been fitted. 'Basket case' The expired rego plates and tub of bondo are still in the trunk. Cheers, Glen.

As I've understood the terms for the last 40 years....... NOS (New Old Stock) = New, unused, in-the-box parts made by the car manufacturer as replacement serce parts (i.e. parts made by Chevrolet for use on a Chevrolet) NORS (New Old Replacement Stock) = New, unused, replacement service parts made by an aftermarket vendor back "in the day" for use in a older vehicle (i.e. Replacement brake wheel cylinder made by Moog in 1948 for use in a '37 Chevrolet).
