I saw this cool skateboard deck at the GNRS.

What nneeds to be done to prep a wooden deck for paint?

Is there a different primer? Is that automotive paint/clear?

Most skate decks are sealed with a clear when they come from the factory to prevent moisture absorbtion and expansion of the wood, that coupled with the fact that the good ones are hard maple make them a good base. Simply just spray on a clear then pinstripe.

If you're just painting wood, it is porous, you need a good sealer, then primer then base, flake, candy to get that effect. Then pinstripe. All automotive paints should work fine, just prep like you would metal but be especially cautious to clean the piece well before paint. You'll have a lot more dust.

You can use "sand and sealer" brush on and sand down and repeat as necessary to give a nce smooth base, some use grain filler before the sealer also if needed
