I painted my '85 GMC pickup with the low gloss black from TSC. I thinned it with
naptha and used the hardener just as the directions said. The truck had alot of
surface rust, the hood, roof and every other horizontail surface. I feathered out
the surface with a DA. I shot the paint right over the bare metal thinking it's oil
base paint like rust-o-leom. It's been about 5 years and the paint still looks
pretty good for sitting out in the Florida sun. Everytime I wash it (which is very
very seldom) people think I painted it again. I paint wheels with TSC paint also
with hardener and they hold up real well. I bought a cheap gun at Harbor Freight,
it's a lvlp not hvlp and it cuts down on the overspray, but it doesn't eliminate it.

I stopped by TSC and picked up a quart to experiment with and shot the front and the area inside the tailgate and I like the color so its going to be Ford tractor blue, its a little brighter then the original blue but it will be nice to have some paint on it,

Painted my Galaxie with Farm and Fleet Valspar Tractor enamel. I left the hardener out so it would not shine and have no complaints as of now. It has been 2 years.

Sorry to revive an old post, but I just finished an old '88 Mazda B2600 in a Chevy paint scheme using Valspar Tractor & Implement Alkyd Enamel -- in Gloss White, Ford Red, and Gloss Black -- the stuff works. Mix was 3:1:1 -- paint, hardener, reducer.

I ran out of time to paint it in my garage before it got cold and had it painted.

It looks good from here, and it'll probably last longer than paint twice it's price. Great job!

  9. I did my OT dump trailer this summer also and it is black and shiny.

  10. I used the ford blue tractor paint to paint a 65 ford one tom 25 years ago. added hardener abd reducer. It held up well andlooked pretty good. I did get a few runs in it. after they hardened I shaved them down with one of those razor blade sled gismos.

Spend a little more and get an acrylic enamel instead of alkyd.
