I have a steel P-38 fuel tank, has some dents but overall the nose and tail are in great shape. I want to sell but search results have found no clue to what is worth. Can anyone shead some light on what I should ask for it? Thanks.
It is probably worth what you want for it. Hang a price on it that you feel is reasonable and let the buyer decide if he/she wants to give that much for it. If I really wanted one I still wouldn't want to drop more than a grand on it. I have seen them with a 1500 price tag on them but I still wouldn't want to drop more than a grand on one myself and if it was in the 500-700 range I would consider myself blessed. Didn't answer your question did I. Well maybe I did.
There is a huge price difference between non P-38 tanks, the small p-38 tanks, and the rare large 305 gallon aluminum tanks. It is like comparing apples to peas. I have 2 of the large aluminum P38 tanks for sale on the Hamb Classifieds. I have sold 2 other similar tanks not too long ago ( after the market crash ), and got what I was asking. Will probably go as a pair to an old Warbird, because Finding a matching set /2 is even way more rare then Finding 1. And the planes need 2.
