I love OCC and Jesse James. They have done so much for the motorcycle world. Thank god for them. My prediction is that tires will and should just get wider and wider and more and more stuff should get welded ONTO choppers. Webs, fins and chandeliers made out of steel rod should be on every bike. More is better. Forget the fact that the word chopper stems from taking parts off and culling a bike down to it's bare essentials.

I just invested my life savings in a company working on 30" wide motorcycle rims and frames that put the triple trees 7' off the ground but then have a sort of porthole downtube with a place to see through. They also make 24" forward control extensions and 48" pullback bars. I'm not supposed to give this secret away so don't tell anyone, but they are working on a full line of gas tanks that your GI Joe can ride in, just like OCC. There's a monster truck, an ambulance, a police car, a 747, a motorhome and the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile. I gotta tell you something...it's gonna be rediculous. To tell you the truth....I can't wait. The name of the company.....

You know its cool because of the Z at the end of choppers.

Investment opportunities are still available. Send money to me now!

Shit, it's not just bikes - it's everything. It is unbelievable how many toys people have now-a-days. So many people so willing to throw any amount of money towards their hobby/passion - whatever it is.

America is becoming a nation FULL of Recreation Specialists(TM).

  3. A freind at work has a chopper shop. When I asked him about all the competition, he said he felt that the guys with skill would be in business doing traditional machines and all the current trnd will become a parts supply for them. The parts sources will have a hard time surviving the glut of good used equipment. I guess the 100+ HP hardtail flattrack style suicide machine of my dreams may be on the horizon.

I've started painting more "custom" harleys than I can handle.I'm perfectly aware that with most of these guys it's just a trend but it's putting food on the table.I do work on "car guy's " cars that are just the same way.All this trend to build cars or bikes or lowered motorhomes have done is allow me to quit a job that I hated more than anything and do the work I enjoy. I've found that these kind of guys don't mind spending the money to do what they think is cool and that's alright with me. I know I'm a whore but I can afford to eat now (unlike with the other shitty job) and still build my kind of stuff for myself. Bring on more money making trends.

It was a trend in the late 60's 70's, just like it is now - except there was no big tv shows to really pimp it back then. The trend will pass and the dudes really into it will still be around living large of the spoils of war (cheap parts!). It's like anything really.

Who knows? Running against the grain my self...here's my old Honda chopper from the 80's with parts from the 70's. This Lil' bitch had chrome everwhere, even the carbs. Sold it in 91 or 2 for $1500 bucks [IMG] Kind of wish it still had it. It also had a 15" car tire on the rear, it was a hand full, but real fun.

Screw choppers...I'm gonna build me a replica of The Toecutter's bike... [IMG]

Bad ass KZ1000 with the mini bullet fairing...mismatched paint, four into one header, bigger carbs and cams...a two wheeled tire shredding hot rod!

I just saw an ad for the next OCC build - it's a bike for Davis Love, the golfer! W T F ? I can already see the putter jockey shifter.

I'm no expert myself but like the looks of rigid brit bikes with aphangers.

The other day I was on the ferry going to superbell's house. Two bikes on the boat- A ducati And a spankin' new harley with every bolt on accessory you could think of. A middle aged jeans wearing guy was on the ducati, and when I saw the other guy Me and my girl both laughed. Black chaps and leather jacket, but he unzipped the jacket, dude was wearing a suit. Tie and all. real fancy. And I swear to god, when we walked past the two of them were talking, the suit guy was saying something about it being a "good investment".

Its just the "you can be a cool guy, just sign here" thing.

I wonder what happened to all the "AUSTIN 3:16" shirts that were so cool a few years ago...

I don't know if it's all going away so fast. Decades ago, when Malcolm Forbes made riding a Harley "OK" for mainstream business guys, I figured that HD's & cigars would be a quick fad, then revert to the guys who have always ridden, regardless of trends.

I've seen it before, and I think they'll continue to be popular for a long time. How many 80's street rods do you see at a car show (assuming it's mainstream)?

    Hey Hack,
The Toecutter got his ass run down by a FALCON ha hahahaha.

Anyone read "Hells Angels" by Sonny Barger. I swear to god in there ol' Sonny said that he wished the Angels woulda switched over to Jap bikes. He said they perform like a mutha.....

But alas, nothing beats the gut feeling one gets from a Harley.

    I wouldn't know.

Mr. Poonster has summed it up.

  27. OK, having grown up 25 minutes from Sturgis, I feel I can safely coment here as an expert on the revolution of "bikers". In the 70s, there were lots of dirtballs that came to party and even more RIDERS that came to tour and see the races and hillclimbs. In the 80s, the rally kept growing every year. Less emphasis on the racing and touring and more on being seen and hitting the big concerts. When the 90s came, it was full boogie yuppies. Years ago, there were tents everywhere, now it is 30 foot trailors and motorhomes.........................hmmmm kinda sounds like street rodders? [IMG]

BTW, My HAMBnHog Rendezvous is this next weekend in Sturgis. We are going to take hotrods AND Harleys and have a good time touring the hills. Kinda my reaction to trailor queen choppers and streetrods.

  28. Sheet! Guess I hit a nerve.

I love bobbers, just check out my site www.bobbertown.com Seriously though, I don't think they're the next thing. People w/ out good taste can't appreciate the simplicity and fine lines of a bobber. They need huge, long, over chromed, billet, abortions to sooth their egos.

And yeah, we'll all reap the rewards of this shit when it all comes tumbling down (cheap parts).

Hunting those damn Ramens: Fiesty little bastards. Hard to wrangle too. I get lucky w/ em' every now and then, but hell, sometimes you just gotta go to the grocery store.

Chopper Dave: He's a good guy. He chewed me out hard for bitching about his site not being updated, but we worked it out. I like him.

I've said fuck it w/ the bike stuff. The Outlaw Pan-Bob is almost done and I've decided where I'm headed w/ my next project. Bought an Ironhead motor and am going to build the anti-chop:

It's going to be a bobber built from swap and EBay stuff. If I can't find it from one of those two places, I'm not buying it. Just junkyard type shit, really. A $25 tank here, a $20 spool there. The only place I'm spending big money is on the motor/driveline and a straight frame. Fuck, I'm thinking Ruddy brown, some spray bomb gloss brown, and bare metal. And if you're one of those bastards that thinks Sporties are for girls...perfect! That's what the anti-chop is going to be all about. Doing a bunch of shit others think isn't cool.

Jeezus! It has come to this eh? Fuck! Oh, and fuck every single one of you who can't see that Jesse James is talented. Christ, next you'll be bashing Cole because he's too talented.

Cafe's Rule (building a little 71 Honda CL175 into a little cafe now.)

I just hope the masses just stay away from Cafes. I think they will though, they are like Tony Bones said about bobbers....too clean & simple.

Thanks to "Theme Bikes" and "Chopper Build-offs" and such, the coolest thing about a motrcycle is being lost...the fact that they are supposed to be just what the name implies...a MOTOR CYCLE!

What I always dug about hot bikes was that they are lean, clean machines with every part having a function or purpose...not just oversized, stretched out knick-knack shelves! A bike should look like Calista Flockhart after three months in the gym...not Rosie O'Donnel after a Twinkie binge! They're supposed to be nimble two wheeled hot rods...not pokey, chubby noisemakers!

It was cool to ride a chopper in the 80s...nobody else had one (that I knew of!), but mine was tricked and tweaked...it was light and fast...sure, it had a stretched fork, coffin tank and mini-apes...but it also had a screamin' 350 (heh heh...for all the world knows!) with a header, bigger carbs, hot ignition and cam, too! It would smoke bigger stock bikes and it was a blast to ride!

Back then, most of my buds were riding built KZ900s and KZ1000s...hopped-up drag bikes that would put the hottest street cars on the trailer! I rode a couple 900s...and they scared me good...like a real bike should!

I eventually bought an LTD-1000 (slightly tamer KZ1000) that was built as a custom by a couple of friends. It wasn't as fast as some of the full drag Kaws were...but it was still way more than most cars could handle...never lost a race to anything on four wheels! (Though I did get flat DUSTED by a hot Suzy 1100...DUH!)!!!

That's where I'm headed anyway...back to the purpose-built big bore machines of the 70s/early 80s...screw the whole Yuppie Chopper fad...a bike ain't a fashion staetment or a status symbol...it's all about performance! That seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle somehow...even though SOME Yuppie Choppers run big inch crate V-twins that make alot of noise...the bikes they throw 'em on are typically oversized, overweight wobbly ass slugs that wouldn't stand a chance against a beat up old four!

Who knows (or cares?!?) where the bike "scene" is headed...I'm typically going the other way, so it's open road and freedom in front of MY handlebars!!!
