Need some help for a friend. Pulled his engine out today and tore it down. Was supposed to be "numbers matching" 389 4 barrel engine. Bore measures about 3.715 to 3.720, Casting numbers in back of block on dist pad are L016, and some number obscured by the oil galley(?) plug. Stamped on the pass side front of the block are 269969 above WP. Any help would be appreciated before he spends a bunch of money on this thing... Got a bad feeling...

According to the bore size and casting date code, it's a '67 326.

My book only goes back to 1970, but I can tell you the bore on a 389 is 4.06 and the bore on a 326 is 3.72.

Lemme see if I can track down your serial #...

    Yep. December 1, 1966. She is a 67 326 with 250hp.

Not the worst thing in the world...326s will accept all the speed parts for 389s, 400 and 455, etc. (from 65-79)

What are you putting this in?
