Well, I have never really had a problem with the NSRA until today. Me and a couple friends went to Kazoo for the day, to the Nats North. Seeing that my buddies dad was there, with his car, and his buddy was there with a car, along with a couple swap spaces, there were more than enough passes to go around. The two guys were there by themselves, which left 4 passes unused by them. Upon arriving to the show grounds, my buddies father met us near the gate to give us passes. The rent-a-cop prick, felt it necessary to thwart the efforts, and confiscate the extra passes. When we protested this action, he called his superior to see if it was OK for us to do so. We fully explained the situation, and we were denied entrance. We were prepared to pay our way in, and then the rent-a-supervisor felt it necessary to take the pass that my buddis dad was wearing. This made it necessary for him to buy his way in, to an event that he was already registered in, and where his car was parked. I realize that there are rules, and we were wrong according to their law. But to take the pass of a guy who has his car on the lot, and forcing him to pay his way back in, is just plain wrong in my book. After paying our ways in (I paid for my buddies dad), the rent a cop felt it necessary to tell us the way that we should have gone about our business. We should have just had our buddy meet us outside the gate, to exchange the passes, but since he was already in, and met us at the gate, we were wrong. Alot of people may feel that I am out of line by ranting about the subject, but it was if we were hardened criminals trying to smuggle drugs into prison. The security prick was an asshole to us, and his supervisor felt it necessary to scold us for our actions. The NSRA makes shitloads of money(of which $190.00 was spent by my buddies dad and his friend) during the weekend. I felt the situation was handled terribly, and we were made to be the rotten assholes. What made me the most upset, is the way the superior felt we should know the way to properly fuck the system, in which we were not trying to do. On our way out of the gate, the very same renta-prick felt it necessary, with a shit-eating grin on his face, to tell us to have a great day..at which point I felt it necessary, with a straight face, to tell him to go fuck himself. Once again, I apologize if this is out of line, but that is just the way I feel. I now realize why alot of people think the NSRA stands for the Nazi Seperatist Rodders Association. OK, I feel better, back to your normally sheduled hot rodding. -Joe
i wish i didnt have to relay this info.. but the same thing happened to me and Burger a few years ago at york.. I met him outside the gate, handed him the badge etc etc.. and an undercover F**KER watching ratted to the rent a cop what was up.. took my extra badge.. the long and short.. I had a free extra pass.. ed should have been in ok.. but this a**hole had to be such.. in the NSRA's defense.. I think that the rent a cops work for the fairgrounds.. and as such may be working under another parties directives..
Brother I feel your pain!! I will never set foot in another NSRA show again. When you try and talk to some of the pricks that are at there cars they act as if you are not worthy of there time. Truth be told most of the good cars where not even built by the drivers, just a bunch of ass holes that have loads of cash and stand around with a polishing cloth trying to look like they know whats going on. Since hanging with the HAMB my eyes have opened up and I have found the type of people I belong with.
Sawzall...I would bet NSRA tells the security to watch for badge hand outs. Levi...you're right N$RA is all about the money. Just look! For years a street rod was pre 48. They see Goodguys is making money off of the later cars. Now NSRA has shows open to 72. I haven't been a member for 4 years now. I still get into York FNSRA Clark
I tried to go in today to pick up my Brookville body and was chased out of the entrance gate by a RodBenders control fuck before I even got my window open to ask where to find B'ville. I left him in a cloud of donut dust and diesel soot on my way out. Flattened their 'no left turn' sign & sawhorse as I pulled out...to the left. Assholes! Talked to nsra security director and the facility manager about the UNwelcome I got- they said they would straighten that bastard out. Got in free, picked up my steel and went right back out- past the same guy that chased me out...I smiled and waved mean people suck Dan
I'm not sure I understand this???? You were trying to use passes that were paid for??? What is the problem with you using passes that were unused and paid for??
And I have friends that cant wait for the NSRA to be in Sacramento next month. They keep asking if I am going.... HMMMM
[ Since hanging with the HAMB my eyes have opened up and I have found the type of people I belong with.[/quote] i'll 2nd that notion
i agree with brush word gets around quick,,,,,,,,,,, as earl would say ............karma,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe less than 6 years
The whole situation sounds pretty screwed up,but I don't understand what the rule is that was violated?
I heard that they were going to be hardasses on people wearing badges for the event that were going to walk in....(I think it's so they can charge the gate fee per adult for admission.) I wonder how they'll treat me if I walk across the street to buy a bottle of diet Coke like I've done in year's past? Good thing I had a spare 2 liter in the cooler. (I'ma diabetic). In the package you get when you register, you get 2 badges for adults and they ask how many child (under 16) passes you want. I got two for the kid's passes, but with no kids this weekend, they'll go unused... Sunday I go with my g/friend....we've got the badges and a running 28 Woodie....so I won't have any hassles. I think it's all about the money.....After hitting the swapmeet Friday, I know it's about the money. I bought a $5 heater and a butchered up 28-29 Ford headlight bar....for $2. You couldn't afford to really buy anything. Everything was pure gold.
My number was I believe- 05362 an early number in an organization that now has a lot of members numberwise nowadays Im sure. I stopped renewing my membership about ten years ago. I was in Memphis this week and was at the Sun Recording studio there as a place of interest on our list..... It is directly the next door neighbor to Walker Radiator - one of the main players in NSRA[Vernon Walker]. I would not even waste a pic on their establishment and did not even dare ask to look inside -as I have had such lack of respect because of the NSRA's "activities" over the years. I feel they will "get theirs" [KARMA] if they follow their same old course as they have been doing.
As usual, money drives everything. Never been a fan of the "big" events...eventually they will have some corrupt asshole bilking the shows out of thousands of dollars (unintentionally of course) and the show will either fold or get taken over by the next corrupt a-hole that fills the position. Just like Politics...Hmmmmm.
If you look at the various rodding websites, the NSRA has a pretty much lousy reputation everywhere. It's still the biggest show in town, but the regional grassroots events are growing and usually a lot more fun.
Sounds to me likes it's just as much the fault of a $6 an hour security guard with a little dick and a big ego as it is NSRA's greed. I don't doubt they both played apart in it.
Sounds to me the rent a cop used those passes he confiscated from you and gave them to his buddys.............
It would be the same at a Goodguys event ... except they would be letting in vehicles of 1972 vintage ...
It's a shame really. NSRA started as a good thing. It's probably outgrown it's original intent. Everything comes full circle. Maybe it will get better if they get the right people in key positions.
I was going to forward this thread to the NSRA and politely ask them to comment, but their website doesn't have ANY contact information except a snail mail address. Just a way to send them money and join. Sad.
Thanks for the input guys, I guess that the thing that pissed me off the most, was the fact that my buddies dad got his pass/pin taken away, causing him to pay his way back in to an event that he was already registered into, with a car and a swap space. I guess the security people are a seperate source contracted by the NSRA, but their demeanor sure does cast a bad light on the NSRA, in my book. Other than that, the day was ok, no real bargains in the swap area, met up with alot of friends.... but the good was all overshadowed by the morning encounter.
As I was leaving a Goodguys event a few years ago I was ask for my badges back if I wasnt intending on returning for Sundays events, I told them I was just to save from having an argument and gave them to a young couple that said they were going to the show. I am not happy with the N.S.R.A either but I dislike Goodguys even less, they all has lost site of the hobbys grass roots homebuilder base.
Sorry for the shit that these organizations pull. But it's true for almost any organization as soon as they grow big they begin to forget where they came from and the reasons that they were founded on. The best thing we can do is not give them our money or patronage. If other clubs do what the Cheaters of Milwaukee do perhaps we could make ourselves heard or at least show these large organizations that we want nothing to do with them. The Cheaters always schedule their car show at the Nite Owl the same day as the Goodguys car show. This has worked so well that Goodguys has tried to reschedule but the Cheaters do too and it's always a better time when Carl is around. Besides the goodguys don't play dodgeball.
I'm not pro-con NSRA,GG,NHRA, etc, etc. If you've ever worked a big event, you just would not believe the criminal mentality that comes into these things. Petty crime, drugs, gambling, whores, you name it. If you've ever dealt with an used car man, then multiply that by 100 to get some of the scum-bags that show up at the gate. The ones that really piss you off, are the guys who do what you tell them not to do, right in your face. Like a dare me to do something. All right, here's the deal, into the penalty box you go. I'm convinced that every big name drag racer in that era who made it to the top, was a cheat and a scoundrel. All you have to do is ask them, and they will tell you that it was the only way to win. Same with the big events. Keep going until it kills you (physically, or financially). The solution is to sell 25 tickets. Above that size, all you get is trophy hunters anyway. Forget the $60 entrance fee to pay for all the trophys and colored streamers, and the big lease. All that crap that the used car man would use. Tell everyone to bring something good to eat, find a place with picnic benches, and have fun. If you're mad at the NSRA, GG, NHRA, etc, etc, then you've graduated to the next big thing in your life: small crowds, and people who did all their own work (even if you think it's ugly).
