hey guys, just had a hard line let loose on my daily pos 1997 olds 88. luckily it's the shortest one possible (left front). I called a couple dealerships to see if they had a pre-made line available but they said I would have to make it myself. it has a different flare than my ON topic hotrod has. I don't have a brake flare tool myself. I'm sure many of you know what it is looks like it was flared out then flare back in?? where when and how do I make this flare!

thinking maybe autozone has the flare tool to borrow??

That's a double flare. Yes you can get "A" cheap tool at AutoZone to do it, but more than likely it will just break off your steel hose on the second flare. The cheap ones do that. The expensive ones won't, but they are expensive. Your best bet is probably a junkyard. I find it hard to believe a dealer can't get a brake line though. Good luck.

I called two chevy dealers and got the same answer. I'll try a buick dealer??

usually the tools autozone has to "borrow" are pretty decent from my experience. I'm gonna call them too if I can't find a line.

  4. Most auto parts stores stock brake lines in standard lengths with various end fittings. Figure out the overall length that you need a buy the closest standard length that is a bit longer. Then bend to tubing to fit. Usually, you can compensate for the additional length with an extra bend. Do use a tubing bending tool for any sharp bends.

I'd check with NAPA and see if they had a length of tubing with the correct flairs on it that you could bend up. Auto Zone and the rest might have it too but I think th best chances would be at NAPA.

I'll check it out fritz. I've got the line out in one piece without busting it in half so I can use it as a guide. it's in a very tight spot with some very tight bends over 90.

does autozone REQUIRE you to be a rude ignorant ass to work there?? unfortunately they are the only ones around here to work with! my local napa doesn't have any double flared lines in stock. The guy at autozone who sounds retarded doesn't even check, just says ya I got that. even after I say are you sure it's double flared??
grrr wish the hamb had a smiley for banging your head against a brick wall!

If it's a brake line, it's double flared... been a standard for many many years... Napa has in stock, premade lines of various lengths... get one as close to the length of the original, install, bleed, and you're good to go!

You can always make your own, but would highly suggest you invest in a good flaring tool if you do...
