Christmas is coming and the wife agreed to buy my two now front cragars. The car currently has 4 inch wide up front, they look good size wise. Since im going to be driving on the street as much as possible I was thinking 6 inch wide would be little better for me. Do u think 6 inch wide would take away from the look also what tire size??

When installing my rear end I moved the springs inward and it jacked the back up. Now the car sits level but I was thinking about bringing the front up a couple of inches
All opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot Jon

  4. Keep it as is. the wider wheel won't make much differance.

wider tires will help handling and stopping (also known as "safety"), but wider wheels won't make much difference one way or the other.
Are those radials on the back and bias plys on the front? If so, forget the new wheels and get some radial tires for the front. That will make a huge difference.

Looks great at this stance. 6" rims will probably not make that much of a visual difference, but you'll feel the better control.
I might move that fire extinguisher a little closer for quicker access.

Im buying new rims and tires ip front. Rims and tires in rear are new. I will be running radials up front and back. Front tires are dry rotted cars been sitting 20 + years..

If you go wider in the front you will lose the racing look..It sits nice I would leave it.

  9. I run the same wheel as you both on the street as well as the track without a problem..............

So on a 15x4.5 rim what tire would suit the car?

I run a 165/15 on a 4 1/2 rim on the front of my 53 and 55 Chevy and have never had a problem ,
Theirs pictures of both in my profile albums.....

  12. 6" is a truck wheel!

Looks great, don't change a thing.

  13. The SS's on my wagon are 4 inchers and those are 165R15 radials.

  16. I like the look you have now,,the 4" wide rims with a tall front tire look more like the old street gasser style/

If you are using radials the tallest tire that is available to fit the rims would be my route. HRP

Thanks for the input guys.. 165 80 15 is what I will run with 15x4. Tire price is good, about 60 bucks a tire. Cheapest thing I've bought yet...

As long as the load rating for the front tires is appropriate for the actual load you are placing on them, keep the size.
