in the shop I mix paint to spray cars in small plastic cups so far I have about 6 different size circles from the bottom of the cup after it dries. I have been thinking of gluing them to gether and turning them down on the lathe and make a shift knob. How about red, blue, green and clear with black for top and bottom.

I'm thinking maybe drill out some spark plugs, and lifters. one, then the other, for a few rounds and maybe that would make for a cool handle.

When in high school (early 60's) we would make wood knobs in woodshop and they worked fine until you tryed to speed shift, guess we should have used harder wood!!
Craftclass we made them from acrylic, they worked allot better.

  4. another vote for the truck shifter handles, one of the ones that caught my eye at work was on on old kenworth with a roadranger 9 speed in it, all chrome long, tapered with a radiused end, it fits your job perfect in my opinion

I am not crazy about big knobs on column shift cars, they look kinda lame and out of place.

I found this in the junk yard I think its Ford, its simple and adds about 2" to my shifter. it looks much better then the ugly stock black knob found on shoebox chevys.

I found this in the garage, its a flag pole topper, might be cool but for a floor shift.

  11. I dig the rocket idea. That's sort of what I thought I might find sorting through kid's toys. Here's my dash thus far.

  14. Since someone already recommended a rocket, here's another idea.

How about a cast model of a hot and scary Lear Jet 23?

I used to have a picture I took at Paso of a car with a chrome rocket as a shifter knob. A club plaque of The Immortals was also in the pic if I remember correct. Ill have to try to dig it up. I took the pic cause I thought the rocket looked kool.

Cut glass door knob maybe? Or maybe a billiard ball, that would be neat, as long as it wasn't the 8 ball.

oh....just saw your interior pic......Mooneyes clear teardrop full of silver flake.....about 10 bucks here in Japan!!!!!!

  25. love that, I'm going to look into that. The Peterbuilt knob I considered before and may just default to that as it's really a perfect match even if it wouldn't be an interior highlight item. I like the idea of chrome as all my other knobs are chrome as well.

could you maybe fill it with resin and drill and tap that? just a thought if you love the look. Maybe the resin will melt plastic though, I'm not sure on that. Plus, like me, you may have an aversion to anything plastic in your vehicle.:)
If the plastic rocket is cheap enough might be worth a try.

  27. Yeah....I remember this show....pic from Allentown...Guy had some
sort of welding instrament for his shifter....lol
    Good one Big Al!!!
