Okay boys. I was fortunate enough to bring this home. I'm planning on putting this in a 33 or 36 Ford. What advice have you HAMB gallery?

  5. Nice find. Any history on it? It has #8 heads? so it may be a 55.

Looks like a stock '55 with a log setup sitting on it.
Very cool start, something worth building a car around

I like flat heads and inline engines and all the rest, but I think my favorite era is the late 50s early 60s with big overhead valve V8s and 6 carbs. Jewelry, man. Cool, Itchy-Pit!

^^^what he said^^^ tell us more about the find and the cars. I spy a Hydro sitting on the floor also. Are the engine/trans hotrodded or stock with speed parts as part of the package?

Craigslist find outside my turf in Fresno. Austin is a car guy/builder. Tag on motor says rebuild standard bore and crank numbers. Not sure build date as 3 3. March 73, 83, don't know. Looks fresh inside. Plugs looked good no oil or fuel fouling. Drivetrain was built for a 5o something Ford pickup dragster I was told. He had the slant tranny and other parts that came with the motor so we made a deal to keep it all together. I don't know if I will runt the auto but we'll see. One 97 has damage but all the linkage is there and we'll just see how it all comes together.

Don't mean to be a nit-picker, but just to set the record straight................
"A six pack usually refers to the Chrysler (Mopar) carburetor setup which is three-two barrel carbs on an intake."
Having run a few 6X2 setups in the old days, I never heard the term 6 pack outside of beer until Mopar used it as an advertising gimmick.

    as for advice,
post your progress here with plenty of pictures

try to find some number 10 heads or mill yours fourty thousandths to get the compression up a little,
Pay attention to push rod length and valve to piston clearance
bore it over as much as you can safely
get a fairly lumpy cam, solid lifters and McGurk 1.8 rockers
put a stick transmission behind it, steel flywheel, Ford Long style clutch
hot ignition, (true magneto with advance)
    build custom headers
run all six carbs, center two set up as primaries, starting with standard jets and power valves 45 and 65
run outer four as secondaries, start with bigger power valves, 61 maybe?
when you hit the go pedal it will give it gobs of air, you will probably need more fuel charge at throttle
read up on getting the 97s to act right as secondaries, if you can't get the throttle blades to seal tight try just cracking the idle screws.

or just rebuild the engine to stock spec's and run the middle two carbs,
should still be plenty of fun, less expense and easier to tune.

Choppedcoupe - I'ts hard not to dress it up. But i think I'm going to do my best diligence and see if I cant get it going with the least cosmetics / gaskets and see. Austin who sold me the motor said his mechanic looked it over and it had high compression. Took the valley pan off and it's super clean. There is a rebuild plate on it. He called the shop and the owner said they only use month and single date year. 3 3 could mean 73 83 93 March. I will certainly keep this thread updated as we go. But be patient. Lot's of projects and projects to peddle to fund this one.
