    Does anyone have a source or interchange for the 176 tooth starter ring gears that were used on the 12volt 324 and 371 Olds manual trans cars? I'm thinking about machining up a new billet alum flwheel and may need to find one. I have two original flywheels but would rather not have to pull a used one to put on a new flywheel. They must be available as you can buy new flywheels from Ross, Bendtsens, etc. I just have several chunks of 6061 alum plate laying around and am thinking about making my own.

    Hello from France ;
    i am mill / lathe technician and i made lot of alum flywheels for french cars...
    i think 6061 is not strong/hard enough...
    i used 7075 for all flywheels i've made...
    ( 6061 is 95 hb , 7075 is 150 hb )( brinell)

    I'm planning on putting in a steel insert. Is that your concern, clutch wear?

    Nut serts can help with the clutch cover attaching. I prefer them to other styles. They add a little outer weight but hold better torque to me.

    Yes, I was planning on a Fidanza 1045 steel bolted insert and nut-serts for the pressure plate holes. This is all in the thinking stage at this point so suggestions/critiques are welcome.

    Wow that's crazy. That's only about an hour's drive from my house.
