Buddy got in a '65 Olds hardtop the other day that isn't bad except they blew up the trans and it has a replacement TH350 sitting in the trunk. I get looking at it and I see it has a 455 air cleaner on it, some dress-up stuff has been done, and it has the C heads the same as a '69 455 I have stashed away. But it's been so long I can't remember how you ID the thing. I thought the numbers were on the top center of the block, to the right of the oil filler, but didn't find anything. Can someone refresh my memory where the engine numbers are and what ones to look for? If it is an actual 455, I think he's going to want my long tail TH400 that was behind a Pontiac 455 rather than that TH350 in it.
I suppose. Told you it's been a long time... I wonder if the link in that thread as far as what letters tell you which motor is any good?
All your questions answered.....Rockets Rule! (the C heads are the best factory heads and yes.....the turbo350 won't cut it...) http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofblk.htm
Just a heads up. That 65 Olds could have a switch pitch TH400 in it. Might be worth rebuilding and keeping. Carmak Riverside, Iowa
The 65 should have the speedo cable hooked to one of the front wheels so you will not have to mess with a cable.
